Alleged Drunk Driver Arrested Following Crash on Bridge Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Wednesday, Oct. 30


  • At 4:02 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man in a vehicle near the intersection of Church and Brown streets.
  • At 4:08 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Derby Street.
  • At 4:13 p.m., police responded to a reported larceny on Essex Street.
  • At 5:11 p.m., police responded to a report of a man assaulted with a knife on Lafayette Street. Thomas F. Gillick, 45, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon (knife).
  • At 6:54 p.m., police responded to a report of a loud preacher with a megaphone on Essex Street.
  • At 7:54 p.m., police responded to a reported domestic dispute on Jefferson Avenue. Patricia Odney, 29, of 87 Chestnut St., Lynn, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery, two counts of malicious destruction of property valued above $250 and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 8:34 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Walter Street.
  • At 9:36 p.m., a woman entered the police station to report that her car was egged.
  • At 10:24 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Highland Avenue. Amy M. Gould, 31, of 127 Bridge St., Salem, was arrested on two counts of shoplifting merchandise by tampering with the price tag.
  • At 10:43 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Lafayette Street.

Thursday, Oct. 31

  • At 12:44 a.m., police and fire units responded to a report of a burning fence near the intersection of Webb and Andrew streets.
  • At 1:53 a.m., police responded to a report of a man passed out in a running car near the intersection of Bridge and Northey streets. Joseph C. Plassmann, 32, of 309 Lynnfield St., Peabody, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
  • At 2:47 a.m., police responded to a report of a TV in the middle of the road on Hazel Street.
  • At 4:05 a.m., police responded to a reported hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Bay View Avenue. 
  • At 5:06 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Bridge and Webb streets. Gustavo Montenegro, 27, of 49 Franklin St., Somerville, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with property damage.
  • At 9:51 a.m., a Lafayette Street woman called police to report that her car and house had been egged overnight.
  • At 11:04 a.m., a woman turned herself in to police at the police station on Margin Street. Donna M. Welch, 47, of 22 Prince St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 12:09 p.m., a woman was arrested at the Probate and Family Court on Federal Street. Taylor E. Shurila, 20, of 29 Birchwood St., in West Roxbury, was arrested on a charge of illegally possessing a class C substance (Vicodin).
  • At 1:03 p.m., a Loring Avenue man called police to report that their fence was damaged overnight.
  • At 3:21 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious backpack on Essex Street.
