Homeless Man Charged With Attempted Murder, Animal Cruelty

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Friday, Sept. 6:

  • At 3:28 p.m., police made an arrest on Federal Street. Deanna M. Brogna, 31, of 29 Bloomfield St., Lynn, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 4:10 p.m., a Lafayette Place resident called police to report that their son's bike had been stolen.
  • At 4:16 p.m., police responded to a reported non-force sexual assault on Bridge Street.
  • At 4:31 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Margin Street. Deanna M. Brogna, 31, of 29 Bloomfield St., Lynn, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 4:33 p.m., a Sable Road West resident called police to report damage to their fence. The fence was reportedly damaged during an arrest earlier in the week
  • At 5:16 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Hibernia Lane.
  • At 6:27 p.m., police responded to a reported shoplifting incident at the Target on Highland Avenue. Pablo Colon, 34, of 504 Summer St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250. Miguel A. Suarez, 31, of 359 Summer St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250.
  • At 6:45 p.m., a skateboarder was issued a citation near the intersection of Washington and Federal streets.
  • At 6:52 p.m., a Wharf Street resident entered the police station to report that his bicycle was stolen.
  • At 7:16 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Rainbow Terrace. Dylan S. Vautour, 19, of 4 Barley Lane, Wayland, was arrested on a charge of operating an unregistered motor vehicle, attaching false plates to a motor vehicle and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 7:42 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on Norman Street. A warrant was issued for a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
  • At 8:19 p.m., a Palmer Street resident called police to report that his bike was stolen.
  • At 8:37 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Peabody Street during which someone was reportedly threatened with a firearm.
  • At 9:22 p.m., police responded to a report of an elderly woman dancing in the street near the intersection of Loring Avenue and Leggs Hill Road. Police spoke with the woman who told them she was was just exercising. The woman was advised to stay on the sidewalk.
  • At 10:42 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Sylvan Street.
  • At 10:43 p.m., police responded to a report of trash bags in the road near the intersection of First Street and Traders Way.
  • At 11:18 p.m., police responded to a loud house party on Boston Street. Dorcas F. Mena, 23, of 109 Boston St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace.

Saturday, Sept. 7

  • At 12:04 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Ocean Avenue.
  • At 12:31 a.m., police responded to a loud party on Forest Avenue. 
  • At 12:43 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Cabot Street. A man was placed into protective custody.
  • At 1:45 a.m., police responded to a disturbance possibly involving a knife and a gun on Essex Street. A group told police they were just playing beer pong. A toy rifle, large knife and pellet gun were taken for safe keeping. 
  • At 5:29 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man on Congress Street. Jerry James Jr., 31, of 14 Monument Square, Charlestown, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

  • At 11:48 a.m., a juvenile was arrested on North Street for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 1:12 p.m., police responded to a reported domestic assault and battery on First Street.
  • At 3:31 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident on Essex Street.
  • At 8:45 p.m., police responded to a report of a man ringing doorbells near the intersection of Rockdale and Belleview avenues.
  • At 10:31 p.m., police responded to a loud party on Lafayette Street.

Sunday, Sept. 8

  • At 12:09 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Harris Street.
  • At 1:20 a.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Essex Street. Francis D. Bennett, 24, of 15 Toxteth St., Brookline, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 3:07 a.m., police responded to a loud party on Congress Street.
  • At 7:02 a.m., a Chestnut Street resident called police to report damage to a fence.
  • At 7:23 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Forest Avenue. A woman told police that someone rummaged through her unlocked car overnight. 
  • At 8:53 a.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant near the intersection of Lafayette and Leach streets. Jorge L. Rivera, 22, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the ground), assault and battery, attempted murder, larceny over $250, threatening to commit a crime and cruelty to animals (kicking a dog).
  • At 10:51 a.m., police responded to a past break-in on Appleton Street.
  • At 2:02 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Prince Street.
  • At 2:13 p.m., police responded to a report of a teenager on a roof on Leach Street.
  • At 2:32 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Orne Street.
  • At 4:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman asking for money on Highland Avenue.
