Salem Police Make Heroin Arrest on Leavitt Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Thursday, Oct. 17:

  • At 4:05 p.m., police responded to a report of a homeless person sleeping on a couch inside of a business on Essex Street.
  • At 4:10 p.m., police responded to a report of kids smashing pumpkins near the intersection of Pleasant and Pickman streets.
  • At 4:!5 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Leavitt Street. Paul T. Carolan Jr., 35, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class A substance (heroin) and for reportedly having four outstanding warrants.
  • At 4:44 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Wharf Street.
  • At 4:46 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Washington Street. John J. Shoup, 46, of 260 Washington St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 5:34 p.m., an officer disposed of a hypodermic needle discovered on Loring Avenue.
  • At 6:56 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Palmer Street.
  • At 8:16 p.m., police responded to a dispute between a landlord and their tenant on Harbor Street. Margarita Scott, 35, of 32 Harbor St., Salem, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and interfering with a police officer. Daylisa C. Alonzo, 30, of 32 Harbor St., Salem, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer and interfering with a police officer.
  • At 8:23 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident on Loring Avenue.
  • At 9:23 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Washington Street. Joseph A. Spaulding, 49, of 286 Washington St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
  • At 10:29 p.m., police responded to a report of kids smashing pumpkins near the intersection of Canal and Ropes streets.
  • At 11:26 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Palmer Street.
  • At 11:43 p.m., Salem State University police made an arrest on Loring Avenue. Derek B. Galante, 19, of 43 Loring Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Friday, Oct. 18

  • At 7:27 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Lyme Street.
  • At 8:17 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Derby Street. Jose R. Diaz, 45, of 10 Lotton Ave., Lynn, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:11 a.m., police received word that a motorist had driven into the ticket dispenser at the entrance to the South Harbor Parking Garage.
  • At 11:02 a.m., a man called police to report that someone stole both outriggers from their PNH lattice boom crane while it was parked on North Street. The man said each outrigger weighs 300 pounds and it would cost $5,000 to replace them.
  • At 12:42 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious package on Forest Avenue.
  • At 1:23 p.m., police received word that a school bus had been damaged on Willson Street.
  • At 1:53 p.m., a man called police to report that someone stole his vehicle from Wharf Street overnight.
  • At 2:58 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on New Derby Street.
  • At 3:14 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Federal Street.
  • At 4:28 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on Charter Street.
  • At 4:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a man selling razor blades at the bus stop on New Derby Street.
  • At 4:54 p.m., police witnessed a fight near the intersection of Lafayette and Dow streets. Robert P. Pientrini, 42, of 58 Sohier Road, Beverly, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and assault and battery.
