Salem Man Charged With Stealing Scrap Metal

Monday, July 22


  • At 5:38 p.m., police and fire units responded to a propane fire on Barr Street.
  • At 6:41 p.m., police responded to a report of people going through other people's trash on North Street.
  • At 7:53 p.m., police responded to the Tavern in the Square for a report of a man refusing to pay his tab. A man was issued a no trespass order.
  • At 8:51 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian and a dog on Boston Street. Click Here for our full story.
  • At 9:17 p.m., police responded to a report of small children playing in the street on Lawrence Street.
  • At 9:28 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Lafayette and Dow streets.
  • At 9:37 p.m., police responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance at Salem Liquors.
  • At 11:13 p.m., police responded to a report of "a man harassing passerbys" on Derby Street.
  • At 11:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a drunk man by the fountain near the intersection of Essex Street and Washington Square East. The man was placed into protective custody.

Tuesday, July 23

  • At 12:20 a.m., police responded to a traffic light issue at the intersection of Bridge and Flint streets.
  • At 6:03 a.m., police responded to a report of a loose dog on Walter Street.
  • At 8:15 a.m., a man called police to report that he has just woken up a man sleeping in one of the boats drydocked at Hawthorne Cove Marina.
  • At 8:25 a.m., a man told police someone just stole  his weed-whacker from a grassy area in front of the high school.
  • At 10:38 a.m., police responded to a report of a woman urinating on North Street. A neighbor told police the woman had been camping out overnight on The Red Cross property. The woman was issued a no trespass order.
  • At 1:08 p.m., police responded to a report of a stolen scooter on Rainbow Terrace
  • At 1:15 p.m., police responded to a report of a mant trying to steal scrap metal from a garage on Osgood Street. A man observed in surveillance video stealing the metal was later located turning in scrap metal at North Shore Recycled Fibers on Jefferson Avenue. Michael J. McCausland, 35, of 56 Margin St., Salem, was arrested on charges of trespassing, attempting to commit a crime and receiving stolen property valued above $250.
  • At 2:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a fraud at the Home Depot on Traders Way. A stop loss employee told police a man was observed on surveillance video returning two faucets he took off of the shelf.
  • At 2:47 p.m., a Gables Circle woman called police to report that someone called her claiming to have her brother and was demanding $2,000. The woman said her brother is fine and she suspects an ex-boyfriend was responsible for the call.
  • At 3:55 p.m., police located a man with an outstanding warrant on Lafayette Street. Andres Gilderubio, 61, of 1 Pickering St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 4:42 p.m., police responded to a report of an open manhole cover near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Jackson Street.
