Man Turns Over Sword Given to His Grandson

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Sunday, Feb. 2

  • At 4:42 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Balcomb Street.
  • At 5:02 p.m., police responded to a report of brown water coming from a faucet on Raymond Road. The DPW was notified.
  • At 5:25 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Boston Street.
  • At 6:00 p.m., police responded to a disturbance between neighbors on Rainbow Terrace.
  • At 6:02 p.m., police responded to a dispute between landlord and tenant on Ocean Avenue West.
  • At 6:11 p.m., the animal control officer responded to a report of a cat struck by a motor vehicle on Lafayette Street. The cat was recovered and taken to The Feline Hospital on Webb Street.
  • At 6:15 p.m., a woman entered the police station to report a past domestic incident. David H. Byors, 27, of 70 Summer St., Salem, was arrested on two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car window, paved roadway).
  • At 8:06 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Ropes Street.
  • At 8:42 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Lafayette Street.
  • At 9:41 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Pope Street.
  • At 9:54 p.m., police responded to a report of two women fighting over a cat on Abbott Street.
  • At 10:05 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Lafayette Street.
  • At 11:05 p.m., police responded to a dispute over a dog on Clark Avenue.

Monday, Feb. 3

  • At 1:07 a.m., police responded to a loud party on Geneva Street.
  • At 8:04 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Endicott Street.
  • At 9:30 a.m., a man entered the police station to turn over a 36-inch metal sword that he said was given to his 6-year-old grandson as a gift.
  • At 10:31 a.m., police made an arrest on Federal Street. Danny J. Ruiz, 41, of 78 Tremont St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:51 a.m., the property manager at the Lafayette Hotel called police to report malicious damage to one of the rooms. 
  • At 12:25 p.m., a North Street resident called police to report that someone dumped trash on the side of their house overnight.
  • At 12:46 p.m., police responded to a complaint about loose dogs on Berube Road.
  • At 1:48 p.m., police responded to a report of an unwanted person at the Lafayette Hotel. Jeffrey J. Alexander, 62, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of trespassing.
  • At 1:49 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Sumner Road.
  • At 3:43 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Washington Street.
