Purse-Snatching Reported at Greenlawn Cemetery

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Tuesday, Jan. 14:

  • At 4:12 p.m., police responded to a reported welfare fraud on Symonds Street.
  • At 4:50 p.m., police and fire units responded to a report of sewage backing up into a home on Watson Street. The city's Building Inspector, the DPW and a member of the Health Department checked the residence and found property damage and free-flowing water.
  • At 4:59 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Mills Street.
  • At 5:35 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Lafayette Street.
  • At 6:08 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on New Derby Street.
  • At 6:16 p.m., police and fire units responded to a reported electrical fire on Palmer Street. Witnesses reported seeing sparks on some exterior electrical lines. National Grid was notified.
  • At 6:18 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Bryant Street.
  • At 6:19 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Chase Street. 
  • At 6:21 p.m., police responded to a gas leak on Lafayette Street.
  • At 6:29 p.m., police responded to a past break-in on Columbus Avenue. A rear window to the home was found open and a laptop, diamond necklace and costume jewelry were stolen.
  • At 6:46 p.m, police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Dearborn Street.
  • At 8:05 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Barton Street.
  • At 10:42 p.m., police responded to a report of a large pothole on Mason Street.

Wednesday, Jan. 15

  • At 12:44 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Washington Street.
  • At 1:51 a.m., police responded to a loud college party on Hazel Street.
  • At 2:05 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on High Street.
  • At 3:10 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Roslyn Street.
  • At 9:37 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Pioneer Street.
  • At 11:27 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Dow Street.
  • At 2:30 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Broad Street.
  • At 3:56 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious item found in a jacket on Highland Avenue.
  • At 3:58 p.m., police responded to a reported purse-snatching at the Greenlawn Cemetery on Orne Street. A woman told police she had her purse stolen from her while she was walking through the cemetery.

Other Arrests: 

Michael Arsenault Jr., 20, of 139 Main St., Medway, was arrested on charges of shoplifting merchandise by concealment, assault and battery, armed burglary, malicious destruction of property valued above $250 and larceny of property valued below $250.

Robynne D. Ashley, 50, of 205 Highland Ave., Salem, was arrested on charges of shoplifting merchandise by concealment.
