Police: Elderly Woman Drives Up Salem Hospital Walkway

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:


Tuesday, Aug. 20


  • At 5:07 p.m., police responded to a report of kids playing in the street on Naples Road.
  • At 6:58 p.m., a Rainbow Terrace resident called police to report that someone stole a package off of their porch.
  • At 7:13 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Derby Square.
  • At 7:14 p.m., a man known to have an outstanding warrant was located on Boston Street. Timothy A. Robertson, 24, of 67 Tudor St., Lynn, was arrested for reportedly having five outstanding warrants.
  • At 7:25 p.m., a Lynch Street woman called police to report that a stranger had just walked into her house. The woman said a man walked into her back door, apologized and left the area.
  • At 8:51 p.m., police responded to a dispute between landlord and tenant on Smith Street.
  • At 10:12 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Ravenna Avenue.

Wednesday, Aug. 21

  • At 12:11 a.m., police responded to a report of a bat in a house on Hancock Street.
  • At 6:12 a.m., a Prince Street resident called police to report that someone slashed his tires overnight.
  • At 8:59 a.m., police responded to a report of an erratic operator on Washington Street. Officers were unable to locate the driver.
  • At 9:54 a.m., an Essex Street woman called police to report that someone stole a larg plant pot from her garden.
  • At 10:55 a.m., police responded to a customer dispute on Boston Street.
  • At 11:37 a.m., police responded to a report of an erratic operator in the parking lot of Salem Hospital on Highland Avenue. A security guard at the hospital called police to report that an elderly woman had driven up the pedestrian walkway to the hospital. The woman was reportedly stuck on the walkway from some time before officers were able to get her to turn off the car.
  • At 11:51 a.m., police responded to a report of an erratic operator near the intersection of Canal and Mill streets.
  • At 12:34 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Lafayette Street.
  • At 12:36 p.m., a woman entered the police station to report that she was assaulted by her boyfriend.
  • At 12:40 p.m., a Hillside Avenue man called police to report that his mechanic just told him he found sugar in his oil tank. 
  • At 12:51 p.m., police responded to a past break-in on Congress Street.
  • At 1:58 p.m., police responded to a custody dispute on Lafayette Street.
  • At 3:44 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 4:23 p.m., a woman called police to report that her bicycle was stolen from outside of the Hawthorne Hotel on Washington Square West.

Other Arrest

Bryon A. Handin, 17, of 20 Calumet St., Peabody, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
