Salem Woman Accuses Neighbor of Throwing Dead Birds

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Tuesday, July 16

  • At 5:30 p.m., police responded to a report of people smoking marijuana on Blaney Street.
  • At 6:09 p.m., police responded to a traffic light issue near the intersection of Bridge and Flint streets.
  • At 6:49 p.m., police responded to a possible drug overdose on Lafayette Street.
  • At 6:51 p.m., police issued a Hancock Street resident a violation for keeping a disorderly house. The home owner's case was continued without a finding for six months in April and since that time police have responded to the home 12 times, including a call for a man wielding a knife. Four people living at the house have been placed into protective custody and two have been arrested on criminal charges, according to police. 
  • At 7:02 p.m., police responded to a possible drug overdose on Lafayette Street.
  • At 7:14 p.m., police responded to a report of an undesirable on Lafayette Street. Michael J. Russell, 29, of 116 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested on charges of possessing a class B substance and disorderly conduct.
  • At 7:52 p.m., police responded to a dispute over property on Boston Street.
  • At 8:19 p.m., police responded to a past shoplifting incident at the Target on Highland Avenue.
  • At 8:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance on Essex Street.
  • At 8:36 p.m., police responded to a past break-in at a basement storage unit on Prince Street.
  • At 8:24 p.m., police responded to a report of a man looking into vehicles on Essex Street. Nicholas O. Meserve, 20, of the streets of Salem, was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 9:05 p.m., police responded to a report of destroyed lawn furniture on Collins Street.
  • At 9:06 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man behind a building on Bridge Street.
  • At 10:16 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman yelling for help on Lafayette Street.
  • At 10:30 p.m., police responded to a report of people urinating in the roadway on Clark Avenue.
  • At 10:52 p.m., a Hazel Street woman called police to report that two teenage boys had just thrown a bottle through her front window. 
  • At 11:17 p.m., a Lafayette Street woman called police to report that her neighbor just threw two dead birds at her. Police were unable to locate the woman accused of throwing the dead birds.
  • At 11:34 p.m., police responded to a report of two people breaking into a car near the intersection of Green and Leach streets. Carlos E. Cabrera Jr., 20, of 79 Summer St., Salem, was arrested on three counts of breaking and entering a vehicle during the nighttime with intent to commit a felony. Luis E. Gomez Jr., 19, of 6 Roslyn St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and three counts of breaking and entering a vehicle during the nighttime with intent to commit a felony.

Wednesday, July 17


  • At 1:42 a.m., police responded to a report of a woman smashing a TV in the street on Prince Street. A woman told responding officers that she was trying to move the TV and dropped it by accident.
  • At 6:10 a.m., a Meseervy Street man called police to report that someone went through his car overnight. 
  • At 7:25 a.m., police responded to a report of an overnight break-in at a home on Linden Street.
  • At 8:07 a.m., police responded to a reported dog attack on Cherry Street. A man told police a pit bull jumped through a screen window and attacked his dog. The man said neither he nor his dog suffered injuries in the incident. 
  • At 8:09 a.m., a Messervy Street woman called police to report that her car was broken into overnight.
  • At8:42 a.m., a Lafayette Street man called police to report that his house was broken into overnight. The man's wife told responding officers she came downstairs to find that the screen on her window was cut and items were missing.
  • At 1:07 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Canal Street.
  • At 2:43 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman yelling on Hazel Street.
  • At 4:17 p.m., police and fire units responded to a report of an arching transformer on School Street.
