Police: Pregnant Woman Arrested After Huffing at Salem CVS

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Wednesday, June 4

  • At 1:51 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Forrester Street.
  • At 2:58 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Forrester Street.
  • At 4:02 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Hawthorne Boulevard.
  • At 5:03 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Canal Street and Loring Avenue.
  • At 5:18 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Lafayette Street. Stefan A. Hays-Nowack, 20, of 104 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute. Zachary T. Berlan, 20, of 76 Maple St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute. Douglas M. Broughton, 20, of 79 Goodridge St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute.
  • At 6:16 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity near the intersection of Congress and Harbor streets. Michael R. Reece, 31, of 40 Ward St., Salem, was arrested on three counts of unarmed robbery and attempting to commit a crime. Click Here for our full story.
  • At 6:18 p.m., police responded to an oven fire on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 6:32 p.m., police made an arrest on Ward Street. Meghan R. Kelly, 27, of 40 Ward St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having four outstanding warrants.
  • At 8:20 p.m., police made an arrest on Lafayette Street. Vincent G. Delgado, 48, of 117 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 8:50 p.m., police responded to a vehicle break-in on Traders Way.
  • At 9:42 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident involving a motorcclist at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Swampscott Road.

Thursday, June 5

  • At 12:08 a.m., police responded to a medical emergency on Greenway Road.
  • At 1:59 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint near the intersection of Lafayette and Leach street.
  • At 10:23 a.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Boston and Proctor streets. Shanarri L. Ozuna, 30, of 16 Cloutman St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
  • At 11:12 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Pope Street.
  • At 12:03 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Bridge Street.
  • At 12:04 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Washington Street. A man was placed into protective custody.
  • At 12:18 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 12:20 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the CVS on Essex Street. The manager of the store told police he spotted a pregnant woman huffing from an aerosol can used for cleaning keyboards in the aisle at the store. Susan D. Douglas, 31, of 143 West St., Northampton, was arrested on a charge of huffing toxic vapors and shoplifting merchandise by asportation.
  • At 12:27 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Lafayette and Holly streets.
  • At 12:57 p.m., police responded to a past shoplifting incident at the Walgreens on New Derby Street.
  • At 1:21 p.m., police responded to a past larceny on Hathorne Street.
  • At 2:24 p.m., police responded to a report of animal cruelty on Swampscott Road.
  • At 3:18 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Brittania Circle.

Other Arrests

Ronald J. Hicks Jr., 49, of 147 Washington St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise valued above $100.

Michelle M. Matayabas, 41, of 147 Wasington St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise valued above $100.
