Salem Police Arrest Alleged Drunk Driver on Charter Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Thursday, Nov. 14


  • At 4:07 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Salem Street. Matthew J. Watson, 34, of 31 Salem St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 5:00 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident on Loring Avenue. 
  • At 5:09 p.m., police responded to a medical overdose on Loring Avenue.
  • At 6:14 p.m., police responded to a past break-in at a business on Swampscott Road.
  • At 10:16 p.m., Salem State University police stopped a motor vehicle on Loring Avenue. Mario R. Chaj, 25, of 13 Arlington St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 11:28 p.m., police responded to a loud house party on Hazel Street.

Friday, Nov. 15

  • At 6:19 a.m., police made an arrest on Loring Avenue. Roosevelt Hill, 52, of 112 Loring Ave., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 12:53 p.m., officers disposed of hypodermic needles discovered near the intersection of Mason and Tremont streets.
  • At 4:21 p.m., police responded to a report of kids driving a Go-Kart on Station Road.
  • At 5:10 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 6:26 p.m., a juvenile was arrested on Prince Street.
  • At 7:06 p.m., police responded to a report of an erratic operator near the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Charter Street. Thomas A. Frithsen, 65, of 28 Madison Square, Gloucester, was arrested on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
  • At 8:02 p.m., police responded to a report of a man going through a woman's purse on Highland Avenue. Christopher M. Manzi, 41, of 45 Center St., Lynn, was arrested on charges of illegally possessing a class E substance (Promethazine), illegally possessing a class C substance (Clorazepam) and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.

Saturday, Nov. 16

  • At 12:39 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Lawrence Street.
  • At 1:45 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Forest Avenue.
  • At 2:30 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Bridge Street.
  • At 2:58 p.m., a woman entered the police station to report that her car was stolen. 
  • At 3:25 p.m., police responded to a report of someone riding a dirt-bike on Buena Vista Avenue.
