Burning Porta-Potty Damages Mack Park Scoreboard

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Tuesday, Aug. 13

  • At 4:24 p.m., police responded to a report of sick raccoon on Granite Street.
  • At 5:16 p.m., police responded to a dispute between a landlord and tenant on Pope Street.
  • At 5:26 p.m., police responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle on Lawrence Street.
  • At 5:41 p.m., police responded to a report of malicious destruction of property on Traders Way. A woman told police that a man pushed a shopping cart out in front of her vehicle and then fled into the woods.
  • At 6:46 p.m., police responded to a report of a man on a scooter collecting scrap metal on Canal Street.
  • At 7:10 p.m., police responded to a report fight on Loring Avenue.
  • At 7:19 p.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Dodge Street.
  • At 7:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman causing a disturbance on Washington Street.
  • At 9:57 p.m., police and fire units responded to a report of a burning porta-potty near the Mack Park baseball field on Grove Street. The fire was extinguished by firefighters. The fire reportedly damaged the electrical wires to the field's scoreboard. 
  • At 11:18 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity near the intersection of Harbor and Prince streets. Jorvan G. Hill, 23, of 286 Washington St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Wednesday, Aug. 14:

  • At  5:05 a.m., police responded to a report of kids hanging out behind a school on Liberty Hill Avenue.
  • At 8:03 a.m., police responded to a report of a homeless woman sleeping on the beach in a sleeping bag near Collins Street. The woman was moved along.
  • At 9:05 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 10:14 a.m., police responded to a report of a rabid skunk in a backyard on Lawrence Street. The skunk was euthanized and disposed of.
  • At 10:37 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Mason and Dunlap streets. Thomas F. Griffin, 47, of 78 Beaver St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 12:52 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Crosby's Market on Canal Street.
  • At 2:19 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Margin and Mill streets. Leonardo Borba, 29, of 19 Berry St., Peabody, was arrested on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 3:26 p.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Bridge Street.
  • At 3:53 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Park Street. Eric J. Huguley, 27, of 2 Fasdick Terr., Lynn, was arrested on charges of domestic assault, intimidating a witness and threatening to commit a crime.
  • At 5:11 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Bridge and Pleasant streets. Stephen P. Cote, 38, of the streets of Gloucester, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class A substance (heroin), fourth offense. Christopher P. Bruni, 28, of 50 Warner St., Gloucester, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class A substance (heroin).
  • At 6:26 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Lafayette Street. Scott A. Caldwell, 29, of 116 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 6:46 p.m., police responded to a report of a man urinating in public on Margin Street.
Other Arrest: 

John Leger, 27, of 21 Forest Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.
