Salem Firefighters Extinguish Burning Vehicle

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Friday, Oct. 4


  • At 5:43 p.m., a Pope Street woman called police to report that some of her medication had been stolen.
  • At 5:44 p.m, police responded to a shoplifting incident at Steve's Quality Market on Margin Street. A man was issued a no trespass order.
  • At 8:49 p.m., police responded to a report of people trying to steal signs on Sewall Street.
  • At 9:23 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Lafayette Street.
  • At 9:43 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Marlborough Road. Brenda A. Zielinski, 56, of 27 Marion Road, Salem, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 11:28 p.m., police and fire units responded to a vehicle fire on Highland Avenue. Firefighters extinguished the burning vehicle.
  • At 11:39 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at the Gulu Gulu Cafe on Washington Street. A patron was issued a no trespass order.
  • At 11:41 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Canal Street.
  • At 11:45 p.m., police responded to a loud house party on Hazel Street.
  • At 11:50 p.m., police responded to a loud house party on Hazel Street.

Saturday, Oct. 5

  • At 12:10 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Wisteria Street.
  • At 12:24 a.m., police responded to a loud house party on Essex Street. Donald W. Larrabee, 27, of 33 Essex St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of manufacturing a class D substance (marijuana). Andrew J. Spencer, 22, of 33 Essex St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute.
  • At 12:39 a.m., police responded to a fight on Lafayette Street.
  • At 12:50 a.m., police responded to a report of a broken flower pot at Grace Church. A man was placed into protective custody.
  • At 1:20 a.m., police responded to a past larceny on Harbor Street.
  • At 1:32 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Bridge Street. Vincent J. Dileone, 26, 3 Sullivan St., Revere, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
  • At 1:37 a.m., police received word that the front window of Hermetic Arts Learning Center on Bridge Street had been smashed.
  • At 2:11 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Meadow Street.
  • At 4:39 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Pioneer Terrace.
  • At 8:06 a.m., police responded to a report of homeless people camping out in the wooded area near Gallows Hill Park. Jerry A. James Jr., 31, of 14 Monument Sq., Charlestown, for reportedly have an outstanding warrant.
  • At 9:42 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Leach Street.
  • At 11:52 a.m., a man called police to report that someone stole his car keys out of a locker at the YMCA on Leggs Hill Road and then used the keys to break into his car.
  • At 12:25 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Leach Street.
  • At 1:18 p.m., police responded to a past motor vehicle accident involving a cyclist near the intersection of Washington and Lynde streets.
  • At 1:21 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Market Basket on Highland Avenue. Starmeka Kelly, 29, of 10 Prince St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise valued above $100 and for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 1:44 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Pioneer Circle.
  • At 3:15 p.m., police responded to a report of a possible counterfeit bill on Heritage Drive.
