Salem Police Investigating Armed Robbery at El Punto Market

The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.


The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Thursday, Dec. 26

  • At 6:13 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Upham Street.
  • At 6:15 p.m., police responded to a report of a loose dog on Granite Street.
  • At 6:37 p.m., Salem State University police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Loring Avenue and Moffatt Road. Adriano Arias, 58, of 61 Lawrence St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
  • At 6:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a 3-year-old child locked in a motor vehicle on Palmer Street. Salem firefighters assisted a woman with unlocking her car.
  • At 8:36 p.m., police responded to a 911 hang-up from El Punto Market on Salem Street. An employee told responding officers that the store had been robbed at knifepoint by two men. Police searched the area but were reportedly unable to find anyone matching a description provided by El Punto Market employees.
  • At 10:21 p.m., police issued a no trespass order on Lafayette Street.

Friday, Dec. 27

  • At 12:14 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Highland Avenue.
  • At 1:10 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious motor vehicle on Pope Street.
  • At 1:24 a.m., police conducted a well-being check near the intersection of Essex and Sewall streets.
  • At 6:52 a.m., police fined a local man after he was recorded illegally dumping trash in the dumpster behind the Shaw's Supermarket on Traders Way.
  • At 9:00 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Broad and Winthrop streets. Eric W. Mohan, 39, of 512 Maple St., Danvers, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:14 a.m., police responded to a report of fresh vandalism on High Street.
  • At 10:15 a.m., police responded to a past larceny at the Wendy's on Lafayette Street.
  • At 10:30 a.m., police responded to a report of an unattended bag near the intersection of Essex Street and Hawthorne Boulevard.
  • At 11:14 a.m., police responded to a dispute on Geneva Street.
  • At 12:25 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Boston Street.
  • At 12:47 p.m., police responded to a report of a turkey with a broken leg on Swampscott Road. The Animal Rescue League was contacted and they picked up the turkey.
  • At 12:53 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Charter Street.
  • At 1:03 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Washington Street.
  • At 1:10 p.m., police responded to a report of damage to a motor vehicle on First Street.
  • At 2:05 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Leggs Hill Road.
  • At 3:08 p.m., police assisted a man in a wheelchair near the intersection of Boston and Hanson streets.

Angel A. Avelino Jr., 21, of 56 Dow St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.

Timothy T. Gay, 48, of the streets of Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.

Nicholas C. Michaud, 35, of 5 Liberty Hill Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.

Stefanie Wowk, 30, of 9 Northend Ave., Peabody, was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
