Salem Police Catch MBTA Bike Thief in the Act

The following information was submitted by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.




The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Tuesday, July 2:

  • At 6:05 p.m., police responded to a report of malicious destruction of property on Cleveland Street.
  • At 6:11 p.m., police made an arrest on Hathorne Street. Dylan J. Pringle, 33, of 20 Hathorne St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of violating an abuse prevention order and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 7:13 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Friend Street.
  • At 7:48 p.m., police responded to a reported assault and battery at Salem Common.
  • At 8:14 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Bridge Street. Richard A. McMullen, 17, of 271 Jefferson Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • At 8:36 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident in the Market Basket parking lot on Highland Avenue.
  • At 9:57 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Franklin Street. Kyle C. Terry, 27, of 7 Moulton Ave., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon (sledge hammer). 
Wednesday, July 3
  • At 12:17 a.m., police made an arrest on Shillaber Street. Ryan P. Silveria, 17, of 10 Shillaber St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant. 
  • At 6:05 a.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident involving a Salem police cruiser on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 6:38 a.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Margin Street. Lorenzo G. Iglesias, 48, of 52 Ward St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. 
  • At 9:07 a.m., police responded to a report of a loose dog on Fort Avenue.
  • At 10:30 a.m., the dispatcher at the Salem police station was reportedly monitoring the surveillance camera in the MBTA station parking lot due to a high number of bike thefts in the area and noticed a suspicious man milling around the bike rack. Responding officers reportedly watched as the man cut a bike lock with bolt cutters. Jose A. Valentin, 44, of 101 Canal St., Salem, was arrested on charges of wanton destruction of property, possessing burglarious tools and attempting to commit a crime.
  • At 11:00 a.m., police checked the well-being of a dog on Traders Way.
  • At 11:34 a.m., police responded to a trash-picking complaint on Kelly Road.
  • At 1:09 p.m., a Fillmore Road woman called police to report that her Oxycodone pills were stolen from her house.
  • At 2:09 p.m., a man called police to report that his wallet and cell phone were stolen from his vehicle while it was parked on Salem Street.
  • At 3:04 p.m., a Washington Street man called police to report that someone broke into his apartment and stole a TV and his computer. Police are reviewing video surveillance.
  • At 3:16 p.m., police responded to a report of a "half-naked female in the street" on Ward Street.
  • At 6:43 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Hathorne Street.
  • At 7:06 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Lafayette Street. John F. Hayes, 25, of 385 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant. 
  • At 7:06 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured cat on Traders Way.
  • At 7:54 p.m., police received word that a tree limb had fallen on cars near the intersection of Boston and Rawlins streets.
  • At 8:24 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Allen and English streets.
  • At 9:23 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Essex Street and Gerrish Place.
  • At 9:58 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Franklin Street.
  • At 10:03 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Juniper Avenue.
Other arrest:

Isandro G. Lopes, 29, of 25 Woodman St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and possessing a Class B substance.
