Drunken Sailor Reported on Congress Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Saturday, July 13

  • At 5:12 p.m., police responded to a report of screws left under the tires of a motor vehicle on Geneva Street.
  • At 5:18 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured raccoon on Willson Street.
  • At 5:20 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Hancock Street. James B. Cronin, 45, of 29 Hancock St., Salem, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
  • At 6:16 p.m., an Abbott Street woman called police to report that it appeared as though someone tried to break into her house overnight.
  • At 6:30 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Allen and English streets. 
  • At 7:10 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Allen and English streets.
  • At 7:34 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman causing a disturbance at Lappin Park on Essex Street.
  • At 7:57 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman screaming near the intersection of Prescott and Downing streets.
  • At 8:16 p.m., K9 Turbo and his handler appeared at Mack Park to showcase obedience skills during movie night. 
  • At 8:34 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at Busa Liquors on Traders Way.
  • At 8:37 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Derby and Webb streets.
  • At 9:56 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Circle Hill Road and Rockdale Avenue.
  • At 10:07 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint near the intersection of Bridge and Webb streets.


Sunday, July 14

  • At 12:07 a.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Broadway.
  • At 12:42 a.m., police responded to a loud party on Bridge Street.
  • At 1:50 a.m., police received word that a drunk man wearing a sailors uniform was causing a disturbance near the intersection of Derby and Congress streets. Officers later located a man fitting that description and placed him into protective custody.
  • At 7:37 a.m., police responded to a report of a barking dog on Palmer Street.
  • At 10:28 a.m., an Oakland Street man called police to report that someone broke into his car overnight and stole his GPS unit.
  • At 12:13 p.m., the owners of Whitcomb Tree Service and Dakoda Tree Service on Highland Avenue called police to report that someone cut their chain-link fencing and burglarized several trucks in the rear of the property.
  • At 1:37 p.m., police responded to a report of kids climbing sign poles on Jefferson Avenue. Rockdale
  • At 1:43 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Loring Avenue.
  • At 1:59 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured seagull near the intersection of Fort Avenue and Restaurant Row.
  • At 1:36 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Mason Street.
