Salem Police Find Unregistered Gun, Marijuana in Towed Vehicle

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Thursday, Aug. 14

  • At 5:27 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Marlborough Road. A man told police his car was broken into overnight.
  • At 9:08 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Valley Street.
  • At 9:22 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Valley Street.
  • At 9:32 p.m., police responded to a fight on Beaver Street.
  • At 9:48 p.m., police stopped a motorist near the intersection of Derby and Lafayette streets for having an expired registration. After the vehicle was towed, an inventory was conducted and a gun and marijuana for distribution was reportedly uncovered.  A warrant will be sought for the owner, Felix Benscome, 26, of Peabody, on charges of possessing a class D substance (marijuana); possessing a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute; possessing a firearm without an FID card; possessing a firearm with an altered identification number and unlawful possession of ammunition. 
  • At 11:48 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Lafayette Street.

Friday, Aug. 15

  • At 12:09 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on Bridge Street.
  • At 7:46 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Aborn Street.
  • At 8:02 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Dow Street. Daniel R. Rodriguez, 89, of 59 Dow St., Salem, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery, intimidating a witness, and threatening to commit a crime.
  • At 10:34 a.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Highland Avenue. Richard M. Burley, 38, of 40 Highland Ave., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 11:48 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen UHaul van on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 1:52 p.m., a woman called police to report that the converter was stolen off of her car.
  • At 1:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a squirrel acting strangely near Sumner Road.
  • At 2:30 p.m., police responded to a report of wires down on Lee Street.
  • At 2:31 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 4:01 p.m., police and fire units responded to a reported building fire on Boston Street.
  • At 4:19 p.m., police responded to a dispute near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Swampscott Road.
  • At 4:26 p.m., police responded to a past break-in on Valley Street.
  • At 4:54 p.m., police responded to a reported fight on Washington Street.
