Alleged Market Basket Shoplifter Arrested on Drug Charges

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Monday, Feb. 3

  • At 4:02 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Bridge Street.
  • At 4:15 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Market Basket on Highland Avenue. Scott A. Webber, 30, of 36A Giles Ave., Beverly, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by concealing merchandise, three counts of illegally possessing a class B substance, four counts of illegally possessing a class E substance and violating the city's knife ordinance.
  • At 4:43 p.m., police responded to a reported domestic assault and battery on Heritage Drive.
  • At 6:51 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at Salem Hospital on Highland Avenue.
  • At 10:49 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Pope Street. A man was placed into protective custody.

Tuesday, Feb. 4

  • At 8:04 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Essex Street.
  • At 8:27 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Grove Street.
  • At 8:29 a.m., police responded to a report of a past break-in on Pioneer Terrace.
  • At 11:30 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Federal Street. 
  • At 1:43 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Bridge Street.
  • At 2:55 p.m., a manager at The Plummer Home for Boys called police to report the seizure of prescription medication.
  • At 3:23 p.m., a resident called police to report that their car was vandalized overnight on Essex Street.
  • At 3:35 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Walmart on Highland Avenue. James M. Kelley, 29, of 27 Mudge St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting merchandise by concealment.
  • At 4:04 p.m., a North Street woman called police to report that someone stole items from their home.
  • At 6:29 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Highland Avenue. 

Other Arrest

Alexander J. Jame, 53, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of trespassing.
