Man Allegedly Exposes Himself at Salem Walmart

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Sunday, Aug. 4:

  • At 4:22 p.m., police responded to a report of a man yelling in the street on Turner Street.
  • At 4:27 p.m., a woman called police to report that she returned home to find a man unknown to her sleeping on her couch. Click Here for our full story.
  • At 5:47 p.m., police received word that a man exposed himself at the Walmart on Highland Avenue. Police are investigating the incident. 
  • At 6:21 p.m., police responded to a report of a damaged chimney on Cabot Street. Click Here for our full story.
  • At 6:28 p.m., police responded to a report of a downed tree on Cleveland Road.
  • At 8:16 p.m., an Endicott Street woman entered the police station to report that $3,000 worth of fraudulent charges were made on her credit card. 
  • At 9:03 p.m., police responded to a loud karaoke party on Fort Avenue.
  • At 10:03 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run accident on Derby Street. Genevieve V. Morton, 52, of 17 Willow Ave., Salem, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
  • At 11:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a bat loose in a house on Dunlap Street. The officer was able to capture the bat and set it free.

Monday, Aug. 5

  • At 8:21 a.m., a man was placed under arrest at the police station. Wilfredo M. Cortes, 48, of 60 E. 104th St., New York, N.Y., was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 9:30 a.m., a woman entered the police station to turn over a $100 bill she found on the sidewalk on Lafayette Street while out walking.
  • At 1:21 p.m., police responded to a report of a man going into backyards to collect cans near the intersection o Nichols and Varney streets.
  • At 1:51 p.m., a woman called police to report dropping a retirement check worth $30,000 on the ground somewhere on Washington Street.
  • At 3:32 p.m., police responded to a past break-in on Aborn Street.
  • At 4:14 p.m., police responded to a report of a man riding a mini-bike on Clifton Avenue.
