Salem Man Arrested After Driving on Railroad Tracks

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Thursday, Feb. 27

  • At 4:58 p.m., police responded to a report of a driver heading down the railroad tracks on Grove Street. A man told responding officers his GPS told him to take a left turn onto the tracks and he got stuck. Cristian Cepeda, 20, of 24 Mason St., Salem, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and driving on the railroad tracks.
  • At 7:56 p.m., police responded to a road rage incident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 7:59 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on North Pine Street.
  • At 8:21 p.m., police responded to a report of trash dumping on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 11:27 p.m., police responded to a sudden death on Lafayette Street. 

Friday, Feb. 28

  • At 12:19 a.m., police responded to a report of a loud noise on Lafayette Street.
  • At 1:41 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen credit card on Derby Street.
  • At 9:14 a.m., police responded to a past larceny on Federal Street.
  • At 9:14 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 10:05 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity near the intersection of Hazel and Laurel streets.
  • At 11:20 a.m., police responded to a dispute between landlord and tenant on Bridge Street.
  • At 12:12 p.m., police made an arrest on Federal Street. Andres C. Santana, 26, of 11 Waterford St., Lynn, was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 12:20 p.m., police responded to a report of an attempted fraud on Vista Avenue.
  • At 12:58 p.m., police responded to a report of a homeless person on a train on Bridge Street. James J. Ferguson, 50, of 345 Columbia Ave., of Depew, N.Y., was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 1:47 p.m., police responded to a report of an erratic operator near the intersection of Essex and North streets. 
  • At 2:05 p.m., an officer attempted to locate a hypodermic needle spotted on Mill Street.
  • At 2:54 p.m., police responded to a dispute between landlord and tenant on Boston Street.
  • At 3:49 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident on Highland Avenue.
  • At 4:07 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Cabot Street.
  • At 4:13 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Larent Road.
Other Arrests

Rachel A. Chittick, 21, of 6 Gallows Hill Road, Salem, was arrested for reprotedly having an outstanding warrant.
