Salem Man Charged with Choking Kitten

A local man was arrested Wednesday night and charged with animal cruelty following a reported domestic dispute on Boston Street.

A Salem man arrested on Boston Street Wednesday night is now facing domestic assault and animal cruelty charges.

At 9:31 p.m., Salem police officers responded to 81 Boston St. after receiving a report of a domestic dispute.

Responding officers spoke to a woman who said Pershing B. Reid III, 30, of 81 Boston St., Salem, attacked her and threatened to hurt her pet kitten.

Reid reportedly "picked up her kitten by the throat like he was going to choke it and threatened to throw it against a wall," according to police.

Reid was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery, intimidating a witness and animal cruelty.
