I am writing to say thank you to all the great Citizens of Salem and beyond who donated items last week towards the Tornado relief effort for Western Massachusetts.

The Salem firefighters, in conjunction with the professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, Teamsters Local 25 and Local 42 worked together to get much needed bottled water, tarps, batteries, ropes, bungees, lights and clothing to the tornado damaged area of the state.

I would also like to say thank you to Fire Chief Cody for providing the space to store the items; Mayor Driscoll and her staff for using the City's reverse 911 system to notify citizens of this relief effort; President Alice Therese Riley-King of Teamsters Local 42 for organizing the pick-up of more than 10 pallets of goods and the professional Truck drivers from Teamsters Local 25 for driving throughout the state to pick up all the items.

Most importantly, I would like to thank all the people who donated. The outpouring of support and giving to those who needed it was not only impressive but moving to say the least.

In three days, we collected over 500 cases of water, hundreds of flashlights and tarps, thousands of batteries and what seemed like miles of rope and bungees.

On behalf of all the members of the Salem Fire Department Local 172 thank you and stay safe.

Sincerely,
Richard P Thomas III
President Salem Firefighters Local 172
