The DPW is working to repair a water main break on Jefferson Avenue.

The following message was issued by the city of Salem Saturday morning:

There has been a water  main break on Jefferson Avenue. Local DPW crews are on site working to fix this break.

Nearby residents might experience no water, a drop in water pressure or brown water as a result of the break.

Once your water service is restored, you may experience brown water.

This is not unusual. Do not turn on your hot water. Run your cold water until it is clear.

Thank you for your patience while we repair this break.

Has your water been impacted?

Hi Pauline! The release didn't provide an exact address but I suspect the water main break would impact residents in the general area.

It is right in front of the DPW. Brown water here between Jefferson and Willson St.

Is anyone else still having brown water? We've been running ours for hours and although better than yesterday, it's still brown. Seriously frustrated!

Mine was brown and I'm in North Salem. I waited til later in the day and it was all clear.
