Police Tell Business to Stop Scaring People

The responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, April 28

12:08 a.m. — A stolen wallet was reported on Wharf Street.

12:17 a.m. — Police received a report of hay bales in the road at Lafayette Street and Loring Avenue. There was nothing in the roadway impeding traffic, police said.

12:47 a.m. — A fight outside of was reported.

12:48 a.m. — Police said a fight was reported outside of .

12:52 a.m. — While police were in the area of Murphy's, they said they were flagged down by a victim who said an unknown man entered his vehicle while it was parked near Brother's Deli. The man told police the suspect got in the driver's side, then exited and got into the passenger side of another vehicle.

2:17 a.m. — Police said an anonymous caller reported there would be a fight in five minutes on Dow Street. Police said the deadline passed, but nobody was around.

6:21 a.m. — Items were reported stolen from an apartment on Federal Street. Police said a woman reported "a bottle of nail polish was missing from her apartment. The polish is valued at between $7 and $8." The woman said she thinks a guest at her apartment took the nail polish. The woman said one of the main reasons she reported the incident was because she didn't want the woman to return.

8:20 a.m. — A dispute between neighbors was reported on Harbor Street.

8:41 a.m. — Police said a smashed rear window was reported on Linden Street.

9:45 a.m. — Smashed door windows were reported on a business on Essex Street.

11:44 a.m. — A painter too close to power lines was reported on Kosciusko Street. Police said the ladder was moved because it was too close.

11:54 a.m. — Police said a possible hit and run involving a North Side Carting trash truck was reported on Southwick Street.

12:09 p.m. — A hypodermic needle was found on School Street.

12:42 p.m. — Police said a bad check for a cab ride was reported on Essex Street.

12:55 p.m. — A person attempting to sell stolen saw blades was reported on Lafayette Street. A man with said he saw a man trying to sell saw blades outside the store after he stole them. He then came inside and tried to return them, police said. When the employee refused to accept the returns, the man handed the blades back and left the store, police said. Police were not able to locate the man.

3:11 p.m. — Police said a man stole a computer at .

3:52 p.m. — A person on Jefferson Avenue told police he ordered a pizza and waited an hour for the delivery. When it was delivered, the man said it was not cooked. He said he returned the pizza to the store owner and asked for his money back. The man told police the owner used an expletive, threw the money back at him, told him to leave the store and then chased him out. Police said the owner didn't threaten the man. The man reporting the incident said he was just concerned the restaurant had his name and phone number.

6:01 p.m. — Kids throwing rocks in the street were reported near Grove Street. Police said four kids admitted to throwing three rocks. There was no damage to any vehicle, police said. The rocks were removed from the street.

6:23 p.m. — A stolen bike was reported on Linden Street.

6:55 p.m. — An intoxicated person bothering people on the sidewalk was reported on New Derby Street. Police said they found two people, but they denied bothering people. Police said they were not intoxicated, and they were sent on their way.

7:18 p.m. — Four people were cited on Essex Street after police said they were loitering. An officer said they had no legitimate purpose for being on the mall, they were loud, and when asked to move they moved 15 feet and looked at the officer in a taunting manner.

9:31 p.m. — A fight in a hallway was reported on Jefferson Avenue.

11:11 p.m. — Police and fire responded to a rollover at Loring and Jefferson avenues. The driver refused treatment, police said.

11:16 p.m. — A fight in the bar was reported at Fantasy Island. Police said the fight was about a bill. A man said he thought his girlfriend, who had left earlier, had paid. Police said the man eventually settled up his tab.

Saturday Arrests

Scott Douglas Hyde, 31, of 19.5 Hazel St., was arrested on an domestic assault and battery charge.

Cheryl Ann Whittemore, 41, of 12 First St., was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property, giving a false name to the police officer and operating after a license suspension (subsequence).

Sunday, April 30

12:37 a.m. — A loud party and fight was reported on Lafayette Street.

1:10 a.m. — Loud yelling and banging was reported on Heritage Drive. Police said two people were having a verbal argument.

1:35 p.m. — Police saw a man sleeping on the sidewalk on Lafayette Street. Police said he was highly intoxicated and taken into protective custody.

2:17 a.m. — Police received a call a girlfriend would not let a boyfriend into an apartment on Palmer Street.

4:41 a.m. — Police said an officer was on routine patrol when he saw a vehicle on Hanson Street had been covered in flour and egged multiple times.

5:39 a.m. — A check was made on an Essex Street statue. Police said it was fine — things were just placed on it, and they were removed.

12:40 p.m. — Police were called to check about a person in a cemetery on North Street. Police said the woman was taking a nap while waiting for a friend, and she didn't appear to be under the influence of any substance. She was sent on her way.

1:46 p.m. — Police responded to a dispute over cigarettes on Palmer Street.

2 p.m. —  A man yelling was reported on East India Square. A man said the employees of the were outside walking up behind people and scaring them. The man said several people who walked by were uncomfortable. An employee of the business said they were just doing a skit. The employee was advised to have his employees stop scaring people.

2:10 p.m. — extinguished trash barrels on fire by the rear of a building at Palmer and Pingree streets

3:44 p.m. — Police received a call about a woman screaming in the roadway. Police spoke with a woman who said she was screaming on her porch. The woman "stated she only screamed a couple times because she was having a mental breakdown" and "'since she screamed she was fine." Police advised the woman to keep the noise down when she is stressed.

Sunday Arrests

Beverly Mookdasnith, 51, who is listed as homeless in Salem was arrested on a charge of shoplifting.

Michael McCausland, 33, of 56 Margin Street was arrested on a trespassing charge.
