Police Searching for Car in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident

Salem police say the victim in a hit-and-run accident on Loring Avenue Saturday morning did succumb to her injuries and the vehicle involved is still at large.

Detective Daniel Tucker, who is investigating the incident, said an 83-year-old Salem woman was crossing the street near 464 Loring Ave. when she was struck by a car. He said the initial call came in at 9:08 a.m.

Tucker said the woman suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. He said her family has been notified, but police are not releasing the woman's name at this time.

The only description police have of the vehicle is a "small, dark" car, possibly a compact and with visible damage to the front end and possibly windshield.

Tucker said the vehicle fled the scene down Loring Avenue toward Swampscott and police are still searching for that car and would appreciate any help from the public.

Anyone with information on the vehicle should contact Detective Daniel Tucker at 978-744-0171 ext. 294.
