Police Respond to Dispute Over Knife in Yard

The following was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The responded to the following calls on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday, April 8

5:13 p.m. — Police responded to a dispute between neighbors on Bridge Street. A man told police his neighbor had thrown a knife at his wooden fence and the knife went into his property. The man said he expressed his anger to his neighbor and told him he was calling the police. The neighbor said he was joking around in the yard, and when he threw the knife at the fence it bounced into his neighbor's yard. The man said he offered an apology, but the neighbor would not accept it. The knife was confiscated, and police told the man to come to the station to pick it up if he wanted it back.

5:29 p.m. — Kids throwing rocks at the shelter from the High Street Playground were reported. Police spoke with a person who was the chaperone for the kids who were all under the age of five and playing on the equipment. The chaperone told police none of the kids had thrown rocks while she was watching them.

5:34 p.m. — Malicious damage to a vehicle was reported at Margin and Norman streets.

6:20 p.m.  — An undesirable man was reported on Phillips Street. A woman said a man came over for Easter, but he refused to leave when asked.

9:33 p.m. — Police responded to a loud Easter party on Bridge Street.

11:12 p.m. — A vehicle with people sleeping in it was reported on Highland Avenue. Police said they spoke with two people who were sleeping inside a vehicle. One of them told police they had fallen asleep while talking.

Monday, April 9

12:04 a.m. — Police received a call that a car went into a pole at Jefferson Avenue and Winthrop Street.

7:23 a.m. — streets. Police said they cleared the scene at 10:48 a.m.

7:32 a.m. — A past assault was reported on Buchanan Road.

10:23 a.m. — Police received a call from Tremont Street about a vehicle that had been keyed overnight.

10:47 a.m. — A woman on Ocean Avenue reported money had been stolen from her pocketbook while inside here home.

11:34 a.m. — A hypodermic needle was found at Essex and Webb streets. Police retrieved the needle.

12:19 p.m. — Police spoke with a man on Harris Street who said he had just been involved in a fight at the . The man said the fight was with another taxi driver and both drivers threw a punch. The man said the other driver was upset with the way he was parked.

3:17 p.m. — Police responded to an "issue over shrubbery" on Federal Street. A man told police his neighbor cut down some shrubbery, and he thinks it was on his property. Police told the man to have the property surveyed to determine who the shrubs belong to.

3:48 p.m. — Suspicious parties possibly with a handgun were reported at Lafayette and Holly Street.
