Police Make Heroin Bust

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Salem Police responded to the following calls on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday, Oct. 11

8:11 a.m. — A caller reported a loud barking dog on Nichols Street.

8:31 a.m. — An attempted break-in was reported on Canal Street.

8:54 a.m. — Police responded to a call that a woman was yelling on Turner Street. Police said the woman was late for work and was upset.

9:17 a.m. — A man reported he was assaulted by his business partner on Jefferson Avenue.

9:49 a.m. — Police said a hypodermic needle was reported on Lafayette Street, but they were not able to locate it.

9:57 a.m. — A person was struck by a vehicle backing out of a driveway on Hawthorne Boulevard.

11:36 a.m. — Police were called to check a man walking with a clown mask at Bridge and North streets.

12:38 p.m. — A dispute was reported on Franklin Street. Police said the fight was over a receipt for rent.

12:59 p.m. — A tractor trailer became unhitched near Walmart.

4:25 p.m. — Police said a sick/injured groundhog was reported on Fillmore Road.

5:35 p.m. — A past break-in to an apartment was reported on Green Street.

6:19 p.m. — After receiving complaints about illegal narcotics activity in the area of Cherry and Cedar streets, police said they performed an investigation for a month and Wellington-Pinales Garcia (see below) was arrested on heroin charges. Police said when they executed search warrants at his Salem residence and vehicle, police found heroin and $2,000 in cash.

6:38 p.m. — Police said a vehicle was egged on Appleton Street.

7:20 p.m. — Harassment was reported on Federal Street.

7:22 p.m. — People drinking in public on Blaney Street were reported, but police said the bottle they located was empty, and there were no signs of public drinking.

7:33 p.m. — A ferret in a beige carrier was found on Lafayette Street at the Marblehead line.

11:34  p.m. —  A man yelling was reported on Dove Street. Police said the man was intoxicated and was placed into protective custody.

Thursday Arrest

Wellington Pinales-Garcia, 24, of 41 Walnut St. in Peabody was arrested on a warrant. He was also arrested on charges of possession of a class A substance and manufacture, distribution or dispersion of a drug.

Friday, Oct. 12

2:02 a.m. — Police reported a sprinkler activation in a cell at the station.

8:19 a.m. — Damaged chairs were reported at the dog park. Police said it was reported an unknown person slashed the seat of plastic chairs.

8:48 a.m. — Graffiti to a building was reported on Colonial Road.

8:57 a.m. — A fire in a cabinet was reported on Shillaber Street.

11:04 a.m. — Smoke coming from a dryer was reported on West Avenue. Police said the Salem Fire Department determined it was an electrical issue. The dryer was unplugged.

12:28 p.m. — A possible bike crash was reported at Bridge and Lathrop streets.

4:54 p.m. — A missing child on the bike path was reported at Loring Avenue and Raymond Road.

Friday Arrest

Brady Charles McConaghy, 25, of 222 East Lauff Ave. in Crescent City (California) was arrested on a malicious destruction of property charge.
