UPDATED: Police Arrest Mother in Salem Heights Assault, Fire

Woman stabs children, sets apartment on fire.

Police made an arrest early Monday morning after a mother "slashed" the throats of her two young children prior to setting her Salem Heights apartment on fire.

Tanicia Goodwin, 25, will be arraigned this morning in Salem District Court on the following charges: two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and arson. 

The children are age 3 and 8-years-old and have "life-threatening injuries, according to Salem Police. They are both in critical condition at Boston Children's Hospital

Salem Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett's Office are investigating.

Salem Fire Department and State Fire Marshall are investigating the cause of the fire, according to the Essex County DA's office.

Oh my god, that's awful, I can only pray that the kids will recover physically and mentally from an ordeal like that.

They should seriously do some screening of the tenants in these low income bulidings. This is the same place where a man stabbed his 9-month pregnant girlfriend to death last year.

Those poor kids, may god be on their side and help them recover through this! That woman should rot in jail for the rest of her life!

I'm guessing time and years of therapy, could be impossible to get over though id think.

Its really tragic for the poor children , my heart goes out for them and hope all the good kind people will pray for their recovery. I wounder where was the dad? Sadly when the father isn`t in the picture , I think mother like that can go crazy and commit a crime of this magnitude, wish she goes to hill after she rotting in jail
