UPDATED: Police Arrest Mother in Salem Heights Assault, Fire

Woman stabs children, sets apartment on fire.

Police made an arrest early Monday morning after a mother "slashed" the throats of her two young children prior to setting her Salem Heights apartment on fire.

Tanicia Goodwin, 25, will be arraigned this morning in Salem District Court on the following charges: two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and arson. 

The children are age 3 and 8-years-old and have "life-threatening injuries, according to Salem Police. They are both in critical condition at Boston Children's Hospital

Salem Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett's Office are investigating.

Salem Fire Department and State Fire Marshall are investigating the cause of the fire, according to the Essex County DA's office.
