A Lynn man died early Saturday morning after falling from the pier at the Hawthorne Cove Marina.

A Lynn man who slipped and fell off of the pier at the Hawthorne Cove Marina in Salem early Saturday morning has died, police said.

John Provencher, 69, of Eastern Avenue in Lynn, was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital shortly after 2 a.m. this morning, officer Cynthia Jerzylo said.

At 12:59 a.m., police and fire units responded to the White Street marina after receiving word that an elderly man had slipped and fallen into the harbor while trying to get onto a boat.

Provencher was reportedly pulled from the water by his friends and emergency responders used an AED device and performed CPR until Atlantic Ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital, Jerzylo said.
