Alleged Thief Nabbed After Foot Chase

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following are excerpts from the Salem Police Department's police blotter and arrest logs:

Friday, Nov. 2:

  • At 4:44 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Gedney Street involving a GMC truck and a Mercedes SE.
  • At 5:22 p.m., police responded to a report of a loose German Shepard on Lafayette Street. Officers were unable to locate the dog.
  • At 6:00 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Essex Street and Warren Court involving an Acura Integra and a Mitsubishi Eclipse.
  • At 6:04 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Loring Avenue involving a Honda Accord and a Pontiac Grand Am. 
  • At 6:33 p.m., police responded to 268 Washington St. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. The driver involved was not cited and responding officers determined that the pedestrian was struck because he ran out into the street.
  • At 7:28 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Jackson Street involving a Chrysler van and a Chevrolet Malibu.
  • At 10:17 p.m., police responded to a reported domestic assault and battery on Norman Street.
  • At 11:24 p.m., police responded to a loud house party on Lawrence Street with 30 or 40 young adults. Matthew Johnson, 20, of 53 Lawrence St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace and officers took down more than two dozen names so that they could issue additional summonses for disturbing the peace.

Saturday, Nov. 3:

  • At 10:30 a.m., a resident called police to report that someone stole fuel from both of his vehicles while they were parked on Loring Avenue.
  • At 11:55 a.m., police responded to Home Depot after receiving word that a shoplifter had just fled the store. After a lengthy foot pursuit in the area of Whalers Lane, Michael A. Waselchuck, 24, of 148 Essex St., Swampscott, was arrested on charges of shoplifting, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.
  • At 2:02 p.m., police responded to a report of a man exposing himself on Willson Street.
  • At 4:12 p.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Derby Street.
  • At 4:41 p.m., police responded to a minor motor vehicle accident on Highland Avenue involving a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Civic.
  • At 8:45 p.m., police responded to a report of an owl in the street near the intersection of Cedar Street and Ceder Street Court.
  • At 11:13 p.m., police responded to a loud party on High Street.

Sunday, Nov. 5:

  • At 1:23 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident a the intersection of Boston and Grove streets involving a Chevy Blazer and aLincoln Towncar.
  • At 1:44 a.m., police responded to a report of a loud party on Canal Street. Robert McLaughlin, 23, of 143 Canal St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of disturbing the peace.
  • At 9:05 a.m., a Loring Avenue man called police to complain about damage that had been done to the picket fence in front of his house.
  • At 12:46 p.m., a man called police to report that two leaf blowers valued at $500 each had been stolen from a trailer parked on Fairmount Street.
  • At 2:07 p.m., police responded to a report that a bag of needles had been discovered on Goodhue Street.
  • At 3:02 p.m., police responded to a report of a man urinating on the sidewalk on Marlborough Road.

Other Arrests:

  • Dameon Robert Burks, 34, of 24 Norman St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of domestic assault and battery.
  • Eugenio Burgos-Laboy, 40, of 191 Federal St., Salem, was arrested on charges of intimidating a witness and three counts of domestic assault and battery.
  • Paul J. Lavoie, 47, of 9 Cottage St., Salem, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery on a person over 60, domestic assault and battery, two counts of threatening to commit a crime, malicious destruction of property valued above $250 and resisting arrest.
