People Try to 'Stop Obama' at Dunkin' Donuts

Tuesday, March 27

4:20 p.m. — Harassing phone calls were reported on Prince Street.

4:59 p.m. — A wallet was found on the counter at . Police said the wallet was returned to the customer at her home.

5:15 p.m. — Police responded to a single car accident at North and Commercial streets. A man hit a small tree at its base, police said. The man told the officer he was "blinded by the setting sun."

5:49 p.m. — A noise complaint due to construction in a building was reported on Essex Street. Police said a person was advised of the city ordinance restricting construction between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m.

6:15 p.m. — Suspicious activity was reported on Franklin Street. Police said the officer responded to on a report two people had been stopped inside the yard. A caller said he saw two people walking in the Franklin Street Playground. Then, he saw them enter the property from the rear. Police said the business is enclosed by a chain link fence topped by barbed wire and there are several no trespassing signs in different areas. Peter Lang and Robert Vaczy (see below) were both arrested. Officers found a knife with a three and a half inch blade in Lang's pocket and a 10-inch double sided dagger in his backpack, which both violated the city knife ordinance.

6:19 p.m. — A hypodermic needle was found on Derby Street. It was disposed of properly, police said.

7:21 p.m. — A loud noise and a scream were reported on Essex Street, but police were not able to find anything.

Tuesday Arrests

Peter A. Lang, 31, who is listed as homeless in Salem, was arrested on charges of trespassing, violating the city knife ordinance and carrying a dangerous weapon.

Robert J. Vaczy, 19, of 68 Old Bridge Ln., in Epping, NH, was arrested on a trespassing charge.

Wednesday, March 28

1:59 a.m. — Loud neighbors were reported on Linden Street. A party was ended and a citation for $100 was issued for violation of the city noise ordinance.

4:19 a.m. — Past assault was reported Andrews Street. When police arrived, they spoke with a woman who had a red mark above her left eye. She said she had fallen and struck her face, police said. She was offered medical attention, but refused.

6:17 a.m. — A possible burglary was reported on Appleton Street. A man said he found the kitchen door ajar, but everything was secure.

6:46 a.m. — Police responded to Leach Street on a call about a suspicious man. When they arrived, police said they learned the man was a first floor resident of the building.

8:22 a.m. — Police responded to Palmer Street on a report a daughter was refusing to go to school. The daughter was upset she woke up late and didn't have enough time to get ready, police said. The officer spoke with the girl and she agreed to go to school "and to set her alarm so she would no oversleep in the future, which would allow her the time needed to get ready," police said.

11:17 a.m. — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at North and Federal streets. Police said the pedestrian was not injured.

11:40 a.m. — Police responded to an accidental 911 dial at .

1:46 p.m. — People loitering were reported at the on Highland Avenue. Police said when they arrived, two people were handing out "Stop Obama" literature in front of the store and were waving to people as they drove by in their cars. They were told not to block the sidewalk and not to harass people. "They were not on Dunkin' Donuts property at all," police said. Employees were told to call back if there were any further problems.

2:19 p.m. — A roommate issue was reported on School Street.

2:40 p.m. — A group stuck in the elevator was reported on Federal Street. Police said they helped deal with traffic while the released three adults.

2:44 p.m. — Police received a call a skateboarder hit a door on Lafayette Street and Loring Avenue. A driver said he almost struck two men on skateboards as they crossed in front of his vehicle while headed inbound on Lafayette Street. The driver said his drivers side window is broken so he opened his drivers side door to speak with the skateboarder. Police said the skateboarder perceived the man "opening his door as a possible threat," so "he used his foot to push the door closed and continued on down Lafayette Street." The skateboarder was stopped by police. No damage was down to the vehicle, but the man was advised of the consequences if he had damaged the door.

3:23 p.m. — Leaves in the street were reported on Collins Street. Police said a woman was cleaning her yard and was advised not to blow leaves into the street.
