Pedestrian Struck, Injured in Lafayette Street Crosswalk

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department’s log:

 

Monday, Aug. 5:

  • At 4:06 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Bridge Street.
  • At 5:11 p.m., a resident turned over a passport discovered on Essex Street.
  • At 5:38 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Rosedale Avenue and Lafayette Street. A woman told responding officers that she was struck in the left hip and thrown into the air while crossing the street in a crosswalk. The woman was transported to the hospital with a minor hip injury. The driver of the car that struck her was issued a citation for failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
  • At 5:42 p.m., police responded to a report of a skunk in a building on Bridge Street.
  • At 8:03 p.m., police responded to a reported grill fire on Porter Street.
  • At 8:33 p.m., police responded to a report of someone setting up camp on Essex Street. A man was sent on his way.
  • At 11:32 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured raccoon in a parking lot on Heritage Drive.

  • At 12:25 a.m., police responded to a report of a woman screaming in a backyard on Hathone Street. A woman was placed into protective custody.
  •  At 6:33 a.m., police responded to a report of wires down near the intersection of Fort and Columbus avenues.
  • At 7:00 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a Salem police vehicle on New Derby Street.
  • At 9:42 a.m., police responded to a report of an out-of-control man on Milk Street. Daniel M. Buso-Jarnis, 29, of 8 Milk St., Salem, was arrested on charges of domestic assault, malicious destruction of property valued above $250 and intimidation of a witness.

  • At 12:41 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Target on Highland Avenue.  Geraldo A. Garcia, 30, of 10 W. Baltimore St., Lynn, was arrested on charges of larceny over $250 by single scheme, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, providing a false name to police and for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At  1:05 p.m., police responded to a report of a man urinating in a hallway on Federal Street. Sean A. Raymond, 37, of 29 Hancock St., Salem, was arrested on charges of open and gross lewdness and disturbing the peace.
  • At 2:00 p.m., police responded to a report of kids throwing rocks at cars on Congress Street.
  • At 2:21 p.m., police responded to a report of fresh vandalism on Lafayette Street.
  • At 2:54 p.m., police responded to a report of an abandoned scooter on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 3:54 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Carol Way.

Other arrests:

Wilfredo M. Cortes, 47, of 60 E. 104th St., New York, N.Y., was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.

Luis Garcia, 30, of 12 Flint St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of larceny over $250.
