Man Rescued From Tree

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

responded to the following calls and arrests on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, Feb. 13

4:19 p.m. — Police responded to Harbor Street on a report of undesirables in the basement. The caller told police a relative had entered the basement to do some work and discovered three squatters. They left the basement prior to police arrival. The caller said he is working to better secure the building.

4:54 p.m. — Police responded to Washington and Mill streets on a report a vehicle struck a pedestrian. Police said the man said he was walking down Mill Street and crossing Canal Street when he was bumped by a vehicle. He said the woman was on the cell phone when she bumped him. He said he was not injured and didn't want to press charges. Police spoke with the drive who said she had to stop short. She said the man began to yell at her and struck the front end of her vehicle with his hands. She said she never struck him.

5:04 p.m. — A past break-in to a Parallel Street residence was reported.

5:08 p.m. — Police responded to on a report a woman tried to return stolen items. Police said a woman came into the store and attempted to return a Sandisk memory card. The receipt showed that it had been purchased the day prior at the same store with cash. Police said an employee was suspicious because the receipt was in poor condition. She also remembered selling the card the night prior to two men. While a video was being watched to confirm the sale, police said the woman left the store.

5:21 p.m. — Police said a person tried to enter a box truck on Franklin Street.

5:31 p.m. — A suspicious man was reported on Freedom Hollow Road.

6:29 p.m. — A man causing a disturbance at was reported to police.

9:40 p.m. — Police received a call about a person sleeping in the hallway of an Essex Street building.

10:06 p.m. — A small fire in a second floor bathroom was reported on Chestnut Street. responded, and there was a small fire on the second floor from a steam unit, police said. The fire department was able to disconnect the unit, and the fire was extinguished, police said.

11:27 p.m. — A fight on Beacon Street was reported. When police arrived, there was no fight in the street.

Monday Arrest

Jason M. Papagikos, 36, of 53 Whiting St., in Lynn, was arrested on charges of entering with intent to commit a crime, larceny of property, assault and intimidation of a witness.

Tuesday, Feb. 14

12:08 a.m. — Workers cutting wood outside at Lafayette and Derby streets were reported.

6:52 a.m. — Damage to the ice sculpture on Brown Street was observed by a police officer.

7:55 a.m. — An Essex Street resident reported someone threw a brick through the front foyer door of her condo. Police said there were no suspects or enemies reported and it appeared to be a random act of vandalism.

8:04 a.m. — Broken windows were reported at on Bridge Street. The caller said she came to work that morning and found that both the entry door and front plate glass window had been broken. More than likely, police said, it was caused by a passerby who had kicked them. Entry was not gained to the business.

9:44 a.m. — Threats were reported on Boston Street.

10:04 a.m. — A dispute over a vehicle was reported on Canal Street.

10:19 a.m. — A dog off a leash was reported at Jefferson Avenue and Arthur Street. Police said the officer was not able to locate the dog.

11:01 a.m. — Threats were reported at An officer at the court said two people were threatened in the bathroom by a woman. All had some kind of involvement either directly or indirectly with a court case.

11:06 a.m. — An undesirable was reported at

12:30 p.m. — A man stuck in a tree was reported on Oakview Avenue. The Salem Fire Department assisted. According to scanner reports, the man was hanging in a tree with a broken ladder under him. He was assisted to the ground.

1:41 p.m. — Police said a possible house fire was reported on Hayes Road. Police said there was no fire, there was a furnace blowback, and there was no damage to the property.

Tuesday Arrests

Christopher J. Bresnahan, 33, of 2 Center St., was arrested on a warrant.

Robert Elmer Uzdavinis III, 30, of 14 Lathrop St., was arrested on a charge of violation of a protective order.

Robert Paul Warren Jr., 43, of 12 Sheehan Tr., in Rockport, was arrested on charges of illegal possession of a Class B substance, operating an uninsured vehicle and operating after a revoked registration.
