Man Issued No Trespass Order for Panhandling in Salem Laundry

The following information was provided by the Salem Police Department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrest on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

6:52 p.m. — A suspicious person inside Wendy's was reported to police. Police said the group of teenagers left before police arrived.

9:15 p.m. — A woman requesting to speak to an officer was reported. Police said they met with two women. One of the women said she is being harassed by a man who works for a cab company.

10:34 p.m. — An intoxicated man was reported at the shelter. Police said the man was placed into protective custody.

11:18 p.m. — A loud group was reported on Jefferson Avenue. Police were not able to locate the group.

11:26 p.m. — Loud music was reported on Washington Street. Police said the music wasn't that loud, but it was lowered anyway. Police were told there is an ongoing dispute between neighbors.

11:38 p.m. — A loud group was reported at Palmer and Perkins streets. Police said the group was advised to clear the area, and they did without incident.

Wednesday Arrest

Dominic Vasquez Jr., 46, of 14 Park St., was arrested on an assault and battery charge.

Thursday, Feb. 16

12:09 a.m. — A motor vehicle break-in was reported on Klop Alley. Police said the rear driver's side window was smashed in. A duffel bag with a flashlight and tin clipboard were missing, police said.

12:18 p.m. — A neighbor smoking was reported on Essex Street. Police said they were unable to find the problem or the caller when they arrived.

1:41 a.m. — Police received a call a woman was being followed at Essex and Washington streets. Police responded and took a man into protective custody after they found him in an extremely intoxicated state.

3:54 a.m. — A suspicious man in a Heritage Drive parking lot was reported. Police said they were not able to locate the man.

8:14 a.m. — An undesirable was reported on Lafayette Street. Police spoke to the manager of Salem Laundry who said a man has been entering the business and keeps bothering customers by asking them for money. He also said the man spreads out his belongings and food on the washing machines so nobody else can use them. Police said a no trespass order will be served.

10:44 a.m. — Police received a call about an unknown dispute on Piedmont Street. The verbal argument was over the daughter not wanting to go to school, police said.

11:51 a.m. — Police said an intoxicated man in front of the shelter was reported. The man was taken into protective custody.

12:38 p.m. — Barking dogs were reported on Winthrop Street. Police arrived and said all was quiet.

2:29 p.m. — Damage to property was reported on Lynde Street. Police said a woman said someone stole the cable lock that locks her scooter, but the scooter was not stolen.

2:37 p.m. — Trash dumping was reported on Hanson Street. 

2:56 p.m. — A past break-in to a business was reported on Wheatland Street. Police said $70 was missing from the office.
