Man Allegedly Points Gun at People on Derby Street

The responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, May 26

12:36 a.m. — A loud party was reported on Essex Street. Police said the woman agreed to end the party for the night.

12:52 a.m. — Police said a loud band was reported at the .

1:01 a.m. — Police responded to a call about a one-vehicle accident on Marlborough Road. The responding officer saw a large cement retaining wall that had been struck by an unknown vehicle. The "wall was crushed inwards and cracked open in two spots," police said. Police were not able to locate the perpetrator.

1:22 a.m. — A loud party was reported at Pleasant and Pickman streets. Police said they spoke with a man who said he had asked the woman to end her party and "he was grabbed by the shirt." The man said he just wanted the party to end so he could go to sleep. Police told the woman to end the party and warned her she could be issued a citation if they had to return.

1:24 a.m. — Joseph Dalton (see below) was arrested after police received a call a man possibly pointed a firearm at people on Derby Street.

1:57 a.m. — Police arrested Julio Diaz (see below) after another call about a possible past assault with a handgun on Derby Street.

2:13 a.m. — A loud party was reported on Rainbow Terrace, but police said a baby had just been crying.

3:18 a.m. — Fireworks were reported at Congress and Harbor streets.

5:45 a.m. — Police received a call abut a problem with a visitor at . Police said a man was belligerent with staff and was escorted out of the birthing area.

7:08 a.m. — A large snapping turtle blocking the road was reported on Dove Avenue. "The turtle was picked up and relocated to a grassy area without injury or loss of fingers," police said.

7:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. — Motor vehicle break-ins were reported on Victory Road and Settlers Way.

9:21 a.m. — Police responded to a call a tree was possibly about to fall on Linden Street.

9:39 a.m. — Police responded to the hospital again on a call about an unwanted person at the Birthplace. Police said the man was issued a no trespass order.

11:08 a.m. — An officer responded to a business on Paradise Avenue on a call trucks were making deliveries during a restricted time.

1:17 p.m. — Harassment by a former employee was reported on Essex Street.

4:42 p.m. — An assault was reported at

5:16 p.m. — A suspicious person on the wrong side of the railing was reported on the Salem Beverly Bridge. Police said the responding officer spoke with a man who was on his bike. "He admitted to standing on the pylon to take a picture," the officer said. Police said the man was "in good spirits and showed the officer the pictures he had taken." The man was advised to stand on the right side of the bridge.

9:19 p.m. — Past threats were reported on Ropes Street.

Saturday Arrests

Joseph John Dalton, 22, of 29 Walter St. in Lynn was arrested on charges of assault and battery by a dangerous weapon (BB gun), assault by a dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a class E substance, possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute and intimidation of a witness.

Julio Xavier Diaz, 20, of 550 Eastern Ave. in Lynn was arrested on charges of assault and battery by a dangerous weapon (pellet gun) and assault and battery.

Marc Grogan Jr., 20, of 24 Violet St. in Lynn was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle after a license suspension, a red light or stop sign violation and operating an unregistered vehicle.

Edwin A. Ruiz, 30, of 199 Chatham St. in Lynn was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle after a license suspension. He was also arrested on two warrants.

Sunday, May 27

12:14 a.m. — A dog locked in a car was reported at Derby and Daniels streets. Police said the dog was fine with the owner.

1:26 a.m. — A purse was found on Kernwood Street.

1:31 a.m. — Suspicious people in a backyard were reported on St. Peter's Street. Police said a man was sitting in a chair and talking on a cell phone. It was apparent he was intoxicated and police said he was taken into protective custody.

1:37 a.m. — Police responded to Salem Hospital on a report of a suspicious man. Security told police they were concerned a man was wearing a vest with "police" written on it. The man would not show any type of identification, police said. The man was run through the system, and he was advised to take off the vest and leave. Police said the man works security in Lynn and has a Department of Public Safety identification.

5:06 a.m. — While on patrol an officer saw a man laid out "half on the sidewalk and the other half in the street on Harrison Avenue," police said. He was intoxicated and taken into protective custody, police said.

9:42 a.m. — A past dog bite was reported on Winter Island Road.

12:06 a.m. — Shoplifters were reported at the on the pedestrian mall.

12:36 p.m. — A man possibly exposing himself was reported on Leach Street.

1:20 p.m. — A shoplifter was reported at . Wellington Taveras (see below) was arrested.

1:46 p.m. — A person taking pictures of a house on School Street Court was reported.

2:05 p.m. — Two people cursing in front of a North Street store were reported.

Sunday Arrests

Abiezer Cotto, 35, of 8 Cherry St. was arrested on a trespassing charge.

Lionel Nicia Dubuisson, 37, of 29 Bow St. in Beverly was arrested on a domestic assault charge.

Wellington Taveras, 29, of 10 Irving St. was arrested on a shoplifting charge.
