The MBTA is alerting riders to expect "major delays" along the Rockport commuter rail line on Wednesday after a person was struck by a train.

The collision occurred about a half mile west of the Thissell Street crossing at about 10 a.m., along one of the least accessible sections of track in Beverly. The inbound train had passengers aboard when it hit the person, according to police.

Transit police officers arrived at about 10:20 a.m. and took over the investigation.

The MBTA said it was sending buses to the area to serve passengers.
