Lynde Street Woman Calls Police When Large Snake Goes Missing

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Thursday, July 11:

  • At 4:00 p.m., police assisted with the condemning of an apartment on Salem Street.
  • At 4:51 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man near the intersection of Roslyn and Canal streets. Brendan M. Thomas, 26, of 12 Pope St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of possessing a large knife and four counts of possessing a class E substance.
  • At 6:13 p.m., police responded to a reported fight near the intersection of Lafayette and Gardner streets. Joseph P. Styczko, 53, of 23 Mall St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and batter with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and assault and battery.
  • At 7:35 p.m., police responded to a report of marijuana use on Charter Street.
  • At 7:46 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Crowdis Street. Police were unable to locate anyone injured in the area.
  • At 7:50 p.m., police received word that a man had just eaten some donuts at Market Basket without paying for them and left the store. The man was issued a no trespass order.
  • At 9:01 p.m., a hypodermic needle was discovered on Washington Square South.
  • At 10:03 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Salem Street.
  • At 10:17 p.m., a Lynde Street woman called police to a report that her boyfriend's large snake was missing from its cage. Responding officers were able to located the snake and return it to its cage.
  • At 10:19 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Conant Street. Jasen R. Walsh, 33, of 10 Conant St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:46 p.m., police responded to a report of loud bangs on Grand Turk Way.
  • At 11:25 p.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Cavendish Circle.


Friday, July 12


  • At 12:11 a.m., police responded to a fireworks complaint on Cavendish Circle.
  • At 2:07 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious man looking into windows on Canal Street.
  • At 8:24 a.m., a man called police to report that his motorcycle was stolen on Beaver Street overnight. The motorcycle was later located.
  • At 11:31 a.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on White Street.
  • At 11:59 a.m., a man called police to report that all four of his vehicle's tires were slashed overnight on Jefferson Avenue.
  • At 12:58 p.m., police responded to a report of aggressive panhandling on Bridge Street.
  • At 2:13 p.m., police responded to a reported of stolen jewelry on Federal Street.
  • At 4:35 p.m., police responded to a report of people smoking marijuana on the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall.
