Caller Reports Tire Blew Out on Bridge Street Pothole

Saturday, Jan. 28

12:44 a.m. — Police responded to on a report of a large fight outside. When police arrived, the fight was over and the crowd had dispersed. A man was on scene with scratches and a large bump over his right eye, police said.

1:06 a.m. — A loud party was reported on Gardner Street. Police said the party was ended without incident.

1:30 a.m. — Police responded to a report of people trying to gain entrance to a Jefferson Avenue building. A man told police between three and six men he didn't know came to his backyard and started a fight. The man said the rear door window was smashed. He also said he dropped his phone and the group took it. "As the story continued the group involved went to 10 to 15 [people]," police said, with no descriptions of the suspects. A neighbor told police he saw the incident, and the man and his friend got involved with a group and no weapons were shown. The neighbor said the man ran into the house with his friend and the group left the area.

2:46 a.m. — Vehicles racing at North and Mason streets were reported. Police said there were no issues when they arrived.

8:07 a.m. — A past break-in at the transfer station on Swampscott Road was reported. A man told police a snowblower was stolen.

10:05 a.m. — Police responded to Canal Street after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

10:14 a.m. — Low hanging wires were reported at Palmer and Prince streets.

10:52 a.m. — Police said a needle was found on Highland Avenue. It was retrieved and properly disposed of.

1:57 p.m. — Hypodermic needles were found on Cedarcrest Road. Police said they were retrieved and properly disposed of.

2:47 p.m. — Police responded to Washington and New Derby streets on a report a man jumped out of a vehicle. Police said they responded, but nobody came forward.

3:06 p.m. — Undesirables were reported near the .

4:04 p.m. — Police received a call that a GPS had been stolen from a room at the .

4:21 p.m. — Police said a bag was found in .

5:26 p.m. — Loud music was reported on Rawlins Street.

7:19 p.m. — Police received a complaint about traffic lights flashing on Highland Avenue.

9:18 p.m. — An intoxicated man was reported on North Street. Police said the man was placed into protective custody.

Saturday, Jan. 29

12:55 a.m. — Police received a call to check on a man laid out at Margin and Endicott streets. Police said the man was sitting on the curb waiting for his friends.  When police were speaking to the man, his friends came and picked him up.

12:59 a.m. — A man in the middle of the street was reported on Canal Street. Police said they located a woman matching the clothing description and she was able to take care of herself and she was not intoxicated. Police said the woman was advised to stay out of the roadway for her own safety.

1:01 a.m. — Police said a man was taken into protective custody outside . The officers said the man was obviously intoxicated and told them to move the crowds by .

1:09 a.m. — Police arrested three people after it was reported they were checking door handles on Charter Street. Police said the incident was reported by the  security. According to security officers, three men were seen in the Council of Aging Parking lot looking into vehicles and pulling the handles. While responding, police located three suspects who matched the description. Police said the men told them they were coming from and going to Forrester Street. Police smelled of liquor but the men did not appear intoxicated. The men denied trying door handles, but based on the witness information, were arrested.  A disk of the video was logged into evidence.

4:08 a.m. — Loud music was reported on Raymond Road. Police advised the resident to turn the music off for the night.

12:15 p.m. — A stolen cell phone was reported on Traders Way.

12:32 p.m. — A woman came to the Salem Police Station to request assistance with a child who was acting out in CCD.

1:31 p.m. — Police said a shoplifter was reported at . Officers said a person was seen trying to open the box to an AM radio. The person was issued a no trespass order.

2:23 p.m. — Police received a call that a person blew a tire on a pothole at Bridge and Ames streets.

2:55 p.m. — and were arrested while police were on surveillance for a parked stolen vehicle. Police said the vehicle was stopped and the two arrested after the car was seen entering traffic. Officers said the steering column was taped together and the operator had a screwdriver.

4:28 p.m. — Police responded to in the mall on a report of problems with kids. The person told police that kids in the mall broke balloons that were taped to a sign. Th officer was not able to locate the kids.
