Lockdown Extended to Horace Mann Lab School After Salem State Stabbings

An elementary school on the Salem State University campus has been put into lock-down as a precaution as police search for a man who stabbed two people.

The mayor's office announced that a lock-down of the Salem State University campus has been extended to the Horace Mann Lab School in the wake of a double stabbing Wednesday morning.

"A temporary shelter-in-place order has been implemented for the SSU Campus and the Horace Mann Lab School, as an additional precaution," the mayor's office wrote. "Police are presently conducting a search of the area for the suspect."

Further, the mayor's office asks residents to be vigilant. Here is a description of the suspect:

  • White male, approximately 20 years old, with long red or blonde hair, and some facial hair.
  • Wearing a white shirt, gray baseball cap, khaki pants and red sneakers.
  • Was pursued to a light brown 1999 Toyota Camry with license plate 804 NTM.
The mayor's office says if you see an individual or vehicle matching these descriptions, please contact the Salem State University Police at 978-542-6111.

The persons injured did not suffer life-threatening wounds.
