Laptops, Jewelry Stolen on Arbella Street

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Sunday, Feb. 17:

• At 4:23 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle on Proctor Street. Sergio Chilel, 28, of 85 N. Common St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
• At 5:39 p.m., police located a man known to have an outstanding warrant on Chandler Street. Michael Daley, 29, of 8 Chandler St., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
• At 5:56 p.m., police responded to a report of a wire down on Barton Square.
• At 6:14 p.m., police responded to a report of a contractor putting snow into the street on Washington Square South. Responding officers determined it was a false report.
• At 9:03 p.m., police responded to a report of wires down across the roadway on Leach Street.
• At 9:28 p.m., police located a man known to have outstanding warrants at Salem Hospital. Timothy T. Gay, 47, of the streets of Salem, was arrested for having two outstanding warrants.
• At 10:07 p.m., police responded to a reported domestic assault and battery on Essex Street.
• At 10:08 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Ward Street.
• At 10:24 p.m., police responded to a burglar alarm at Kernwood Country Club. Responding officers didn't find anyone inside or in the immediate area.
• At 10:59 p.m., police received word that there was a person lying in the snow on Derby Street. The reporting party later called back to report that it wasn't a person, it was a large black trash bag blowing in the wind.
• At 11:20 p.m., a Heritage Drive woman called police to report that her bedroom window was broken. Responding officers determined the broken window didn't appear to be the result of an attempted break-in. 

Monday, Feb. 18:

• At 12:03 a.m., police responded to a water main break on North Street.
• At 2:18 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Washington Street.
• At 7:30 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm at Roasted Peppers on Boston Street. The front door was reportedly found unlocked and the owner was notified to come close up.
• At 8:55 a.m., an Essex Street woman called police to report a suspicious man posing as a National Grid employee. The woman said a man wearing a dark coat and a black knit cap knocked on her back door and told her he was checking for frozen pipes. When she asked for identification, the man reportedly provided a bank card before leaving the area.
• At 9:21 a.m., a Geneva Street woman called police to report that her car was egged overnight.
• At 9:40 a.m., police stopped a motor vehicle at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Cain Road. Carlos Ortiz, 42, of 501 Washington St., Lynn, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, third offense, and for having an outstanding warrant.
• At 1:41 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on High Street.
• At 1:42 p.m., police responded to a past break-in at a home on Arbella Street. A woman told police she returned home to find that her house had been broken into and laptops and jewelry had been stolen. Police are investigating the break-in.

Other arrests:

Toccara L. Lark, 29, of 313 Essex St., Lynn, was arrested on charges of uttering a false prescription, forgery, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

Marvin A. Perez, 20, of 1 College Drive, Salem, was arrested on charges of malicious destruction of property valued above $250, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
