Emotions Boil Over Following Drunken Driver's Sentencing

Family members of a Danvers teen killed in a drunk driving accident in Salem earlier this year were outraged at the driver's sentencing in Thursday afternoon.

The family and friends of a Danvers teen killed in a car accident in Salem earlier this summer had some harsh words for the driver following her sentencing in Salem District Court Thursday afternoon.

Angelique Griffin, 25, of Salem, pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of vehicular homicide and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

The passenger in her vehicle, Dillon Renard, 19, was killed on June 16, when the PT Cruiser Griffin was driving crashed into a parked tow truck outside All Star Collision Center on Boston Street.

A judge sentenced Griffin to serve two-and-a-half years in prison with a six-month home confinement, according to WHDH.

Griffin told police Renard had been driving her vehicle for part of the ride, and the two had been arguing prior to the accident, according to court documents.

A partially empty Budweiser can was reportedly found on the vehicle floor behind the passenger seat, and another can was found outside the vehicle in the grass. A drinking glass was also found on the floor of the driver's area.

Following the sentencing, a group of Renard's relatives reportedly left the court room shouting "you're gonna die" and telling Griffin that they'd be waiting for her when she got out, according to this video on WHDH.

Earlier this month, Renard's family held a 'Dream for Dillon' event in Beverly to benefit the teen's scholarship fund, which will be awarded to a 2012 Salem High School graduate who receives special education services.

Salem Patch will be posting additional information as it becomes avaiable.
