I have watched that area of Salem go downhill over the last 10 years. From Ocean ave. to Fairfield st. has gone from single and multi family homes to college apartments and drug dealers. Roslyn,Gardner,Cabot,Hancock,Hazel and Laurel have all become major problem areas. We have a mayor that can't see that the college is to big and low income housing is crawling up Lafayette St on a collision course. In the next 10 years all areas off Lafayette will be problem areas that will connect to the point and the existing downtown homeless and shelter problems. What do we have left? Highland Ave is a highway.Witchcraft is a cut through. North St is a traffic disaster and the side streets are loaded with speeding cut through traffic. Vinnin Sq/Loring Ave another traffic mess. The future is very clear in Salem and I gaurantee Driscoll will not live here after she gets the boot.

If you look at the real estate for sale, there are tons of properties for sale of the streets that you mentioned. Homeowners are probably trying to get out before it gets really bad. We have our own share of problems in the Derby Wharf neighborhood. Probably not as bad as other Salem neighborhoods, but still....it's changed alot since I bought my home here 15 years ago.

Wow you people are so silly think someone isn't running a small crew of dealers and informants and making a killing.....corruption is every were.....Palmer St is just too constant and active to not have someone being paid off.....wake up

When we were looking in Salem last summer we went to an open house on Gardner. The house next to it had loud music blasting and unscreened windows wide open. I told my realtor I didn't even want to waste my time looking and we left. So I absolutely agree with Adrienne and John.
