Cat is Culprit in Linden Street Casing Call

responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday, Feb. 26

4:16 p.m. — Police received a call a patient possibly had a knife at . Police said the ambulance company that called canceled the request for police prior to the officer's arrival.

4:19 p.m. — Possible drug activity in a vehicle in was reported. Police said they spoke with two people in an SUV who were on a road in the cemetery, but there was no evidence of drugs. One of the people said they were in the cemetery to pay respects to a deceased relative. They were also passing the time to pick up one of their sons from work, police said.

4:25 p.m. — A slashed tire was reported on March Street. The woman who reported the call said a neighbor who is upset over complaints about a dog could possibly be the culprit. The woman also said she had hit a curb last week but did not see any slash marks. Police said the woman was advised to go to a garage to find out if the damage was caused by a knife or a curb.

5:23 p.m. — A suspicious person was reported at the on Bridge Street. The owner said a man entered the store to buy beer and became very upset when asked for identification. The suspect left without buying beer and returned 20 minutes later with another man who bought the beer and questioned the owner as to why he had asked for an identification, police said. The owner told the men to leave the store, which he said they did.

6:37 p.m. — Police responded to the area of Grove Street and Harmony Grove Road on a reported of an accident.When they arrived, police said a woman told them while traveling on Grove Street, she applied her brakes. Then, the woman said, the car pulled to the right and struck a pole. Police said the pole was snapped at the base and Verizon sent out an emergency crew for the . The woman was cited for speeding.

7:57 p.m. — A person in the area of a construction site on Technology Way was reported. The man said he was gathering scrap metal. He was also identified as a security guard for a company in the area, police said. The officer responding said the owner contacted him and confirmed he had given permission for the man to take the metal.

8:13 p.m. — Police received a report a pedestrian was struck on Raymond Road.

8:20 p.m. — Police received a call for mutual aid from Beverly. Beverly Police contacted the Salem Police to speak with a man on a stroller and ask if he took the stroller from a sidewalk in Beverly. The man said he didn't take it. The officer said the man's pick-up was filled with scrap metal, but there wasn't a stroller. The man was told if he took the stroller, the owners would like it back.

9:39 p.m. — A man checking door handles was reported on Boston Street.

10:18 p.m. — Police said a wallet was found on Lafayette Street.

Sunday Arrest

Beatriz Abreu-Rivera, 39, of 4226 Harvest Dr. in North Andover, was arrested on charges of operating with a suspended license (subsequent offense) and a red light or stop sign violation. She was also arrested on a warrant.

Monday, Feb. 27

12:14 a.m. — A dispute between neighbors was reported on Meadow Street.

12:15 a.m. — A suspicious person in the street was reported at Highland Avenue and Willson Street. Police said they met a woman who was walking down the street  and singing while on her headphones. There were no problems, police said.

12:56 a.m. — Police received a call about a woman screaming in the street on Herbert Street. Officers responded and said the woman was spoken to about her screaming.

7:56 a.m. — Two vandalized vehicles were reported on High Street.

8:18 a.m. — Police said a man was asked to leave after "he malingered in the area after doing his laundry." A no trespass order was issued.

8:44 a.m. — A woman's wallet was found on Trader's Way.

8:54 a.m. — Police said a person possibly casing homes was reported on Linden Street. Police located a man on Laurel Street near Linden Street. "He was walking with a bag of cat treats and stated that his aunt's cat got out of the home…and he was attempting to locate it," police said. Police said the man provided multiple names from the residence and they were in the master name list with the correct address. The man was sent on his way.

11:34 a.m. — A lost laptop was reported on Cawley Way. A man said he placed the laptop on his roof and drove off. When he got to his destination, the computer was gone. The man called back to say he located the laptop on the roadway, and it was in working order.

11:43 a.m. — Police spoke with an transit officer who said a man approached him and said his iPhone was stolen and the person who stole it was on the train. The train was held, but the suspect was not found. The man who reported the iPhone stolen said the suspect stole the iPhone from his Congress Street store. Police were able to obtain several photos, which were entered into evidence.

11:50 a.m. — A lost debit card was reported on Rainbow Terrace.

12:09 p.m. — An intoxicated person was reported on Congress Street.The man was placed into protective custody after he was found passed out in the rear of the .

12:28 p.m. — Police met with the transit police at the MBTA station. An officer had witnessed Jonathan Silveira (see below) looking in and around vehicles in the MBTA lot with another man, police said. Police said Silveira pushed the MBTA officer; he was then arrested. The other man fled and was not located, police said.

1:50 p.m. — Illegal dumping was reported on Federal Street.

1:58 p.m. — A past sexual assault was reported on Ocean Avenue West.

2:02 p.m. — A pedestrian struck by a vehicle was reported on Pope Street.

4:17 p.m. — Possible larceny of mail was reported on Pingree Street.

4:34 p.m. — A hypodermic needle was reported on Highland Avenue.

Monday Arrests

Angel Miranda, 33, of 386 Prospect St. in Perth Amboy, N.J., was arrested on a warrant.

Jonathan Silveira, 28, of 16 Swampscott Ave. in Peabody, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and assault and battery on a police officer.
