Patient Throws Bleach on Salem Hospital Employee

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log:

Wednesday, Jan. 9:

  • At 3:08 p.m., police located a man known to have outstanding warrants walking on Congress Street. Joseph R. Watkins, 35, of 16 Jewetts Ct., Lynn, was arrested for having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 4:10 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured duck on Leavitt Street. The duck, which was found to be dead, was removed.
  • At 5:28 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Herbert Street.
  • At 5:31 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Abbott Street.
  • At 8:36 p.m., a Heritage Drive woman called police to report that someone threw a rock through her living room window.
  • At 9:51 p.m., police responded to a reported armed robbery on Harbor Street involving a knife and a bat. Eric N. Rentas, 25, of 3 Roslyn Ct., Salem, was arrested on charges of armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) and assault and battery. John N. Diaz, 20, of 11 Harbor St. Salem, was arrested on charges of armed robbery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) and assault and battery.
  • At 10:28 p.m., police responded to a complaint regarding illegal duck hunters in the area of March Street.
  • At 10:37 p.m., an employee at Salem Hospital called police to report that a patient threw a cup of bleach on him. A summons was issued for Leslie Hill for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (bleach).
  • At 11:07 p.m., police responded to a domestic assault and battery on Webb Street.

  • At 12:01 a.m. a resident entered the police station to report that a couple left the 99 Restaurant on Bridge Street without paying an $86 bill. 
  • At 12:10 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Rice Street. Juan C. Gomez, 25, of 7 Oak St., Peabody, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery, second offense, and breaking and entering a building during the nighttime to commit a felony.
  • At 12:50 a.m., police removed a Christmas tree from the roadway on Willson Street.
  • At 2:30 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot at Dead Horse Beach. Two couples were reportedly found sleeping in their cars and they were both moved along.
  • At 7:10 a.m., police responded to a report of early construction work on Summit Street. 
  • At 9:03 a.m., police located a woman known to have outstanding warrants on Jefferson Avenue. Alicia Millett, 35, of 351 Jefferson Ave., Salem, was arrested for having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 10:43 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Washington Street.
  • At 11:56 a.m., a hypodermic needle was reportedly discovered in the bushes on Washington Street.
  • At 12:59 p.m., a Shore Avenue woman called police to report that a package containing a pair of $350 headphones was stolen off of her front porch.
