Bank Robbed with Threat of a Gun

A man using the threat of a gun robbed the North Shore Bank on Sunday afternoon.

A Highland Avenue bank was robbed with the threat of a gun on Sunday afternoon - the second armed robbery in Salem in four days.

Salem police said the robbery happened at 1:28 p.m. at North Shore Bank at 319 Highland Ave., next to the Circle K/Irving gas station at the corner of Swampscott Road.

Nobody was injured. Police didn't say how much money the robber got away with.

Officer Timothy Salvo responded with K-9 Turbo and searched for the robber, who was described as a black man in his 30s, 5-foot, 6-inches tall with a medium build wearing a blue sweatsuit and blue hat with a blue bandanna over his face and nose. He was also wearing gloves, police said.

In addition to Salvo and a detective, three other officers and a sergeant responded and checked the area for the suspect, with help from officers from Lynn, Marblehead and Swampscott.

The Salem News reported that the suspect fled on foot across the parking lot and down Swampscott Road.

Your Neighborhood Market on School Street had an armed robbery on Thursday night. There has not been an arrest in either case.
