Bangkok Paradise Owner, 5 Others Arrested in Multi-Agency Drug Raids

Six North Shore men including the Bangkok Paradise owner, were arrested Friday morning. Police seized thousands of oxycodone pills, more than $50,000 in cash and a gun.

Authorities arrested six local men Friday morning in several drug raids across the North Shore.

One of the men was also identified as the owner of Bangkok Paradise, Jesus Franco.

Essex Country District Attorney's office spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan said warrants were executed at 10 different locations in Lynn, Peabody, Salem and Danvers and police also seized thousands of oxycodone pills along with more than $50,000 in cash and a gun.

She said the arrests were the result of a "long-term, multi-agency drug investigation." The agencies involved were DA's Drug Task Force, state police, Drug Enforcement Agency, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Peabody, Lynn, Salem and Danvers police.

The following men were arrested and scheduled for arraignment in Peabody and Salem district courts Friday morning:

  1. Celton Pelaez, 36, of 84 Aborn St., Peabody, was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  2. Jesus Franco, 42, of 34 Perkins St., Salem, (owner of Bangkok Paradise) was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  3. Jason Gentry, 32, of 5 Station Rd., Salem, was charged with possession with intent to distribute oxycodone.
  4. David Soucy, 35, of 7 Garden St., Danvers, was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  5. Henry Hernandez, 36, of 32 Columbia Ave., Lynn, was charged with trafficking oxycodone.
  6. Joel Gonzalez, 32, of 44 Lawrence Rd., Lynn, was charged with the sale of a firearm.

This explains why the owner had such a nasty comment about government getting involved in his business.
Joeli Gewirtz October 19, 2012 at 10:55 PM
I knew it!!! We have had this ongoing conspiracy theory that they were up to something sketchy. Nailed it.

So what happened at the gross sub joint on Jefferson? I missed it.
Chris October 20, 2012 at 12:22 AM
I for one.. am not at all surprised...
R Lim October 20, 2012 at 01:19 AM
We are just as surprised about this news as the next person.... I knew the owner to be a family man and a great guy.
Harvey October 20, 2012 at 01:28 AM
We can all thank the mayor for this mess. When you only care about your downtown tax revenue and low income housing projects all over the city this is exactly what you get.
R Lim October 20, 2012 at 01:33 AM
I'm surprised about the news...I never saw any illegal activity take place inside the Bangkok. Besides I was defending the fact that a fight across the street from their bar was not their responsibility. As far as my own events go. Shame on you for wishing ill upon my business and the artists who put so much work and love into what they do. The Bangkok Paradise is just one Venue in a world of possibilities.
R Lim October 20, 2012 at 01:42 AM
People like you are why the Witch Trials happened in the first place. As if the Bangkok wasn't enough... Now your publicly talking smack about other business. I The SPD should check out Gallows Hill... I hear there's a lot of witches up there.

Doesn't Jason Gentry own giovanni's?
ShameOnSalem October 20, 2012 at 02:29 AM
LEGALIZED LYNCHING!!! Patch is clearly a DOCTRINE OF MOB RULE.
JR Collins October 20, 2012 at 02:33 AM
We're on a roll guys. Who else don't we like? Lets shut them all down!
Michele October 20, 2012 at 02:49 AM
Yes, he does, according to an article and an accompanying video from Febrauary 2011, found right here on The Patch when Jason's dog Hercules went missing. http://salem.patch.com/articles/video-giovannis-owner-searches-for-stolen-dog#video-4880055

Very good job to the men in blue!!

I am a everyday customer at Giovannis, they are very clean and good at what they do. They are very respectful and nice to every customer. Making false comments on something isn't going to make the store disappear.
megah m October 20, 2012 at 02:33 PM
Well I get out at 11 and Ive never had a problem giovannis. Read the article a couple of times Jason Gentry was the only one not charged with trafficking. So for "now" Im a customer.
Brian October 20, 2012 at 04:32 PM
Sorry Jess, but i have to agree with Bill. No not everyone in the Point is bad, but the percentage of bad much out weights the good. When i was younger the point was mostly french, and it was a great place. Cant walk the streets with out being armed.today . You tell me what happened. Riots on Halloween, that never happened before either.
Linny October 20, 2012 at 04:32 PM
Noticed that health violations on door of Giovanni's are covered up. Somehow I don't think that is OK to do. Public has right to know why they are closed.
rickki pudpuller October 20, 2012 at 06:27 PM
the city should be ashamed of themselves. spd is a joke. the liquor board is inept at best.they get the pension credit but are woefully ignorant of real life.
rickki pudpuller October 20, 2012 at 07:03 PM
so does the tavern in the square
rickki pudpuller October 20, 2012 at 07:08 PM
the liquor board is on board. they are on the record letting mary transfer it..the 1k per year pension should be revoked..oh then you let the tavern in the square have a free one ...thats another story

Seems to me that the SPD are doing exactly what you think they should be doing.....focusing on the crime in this city! Kudos to all of them on this raid and to the myriad of other arrests and stings that they have accomplished. Theirs is not an easy job with the element that has moved into this city...it is a constant battle and they are doing a fine job! I for one am happy that the members of the SPD don't "like" drug dealers, hookers, gang members and the various other cretins that make life in Salem unsafe! Keep up the good work officers! Do you need some help packing up Sarah?
Jess October 22, 2012 at 12:03 AM
Why would Sarah want to leave "your" country? This is America, CN it's everyone's country whether you like them or not
Jess October 22, 2012 at 12:06 AM
I have been there a few times and resent the fact that you say all the patrons are in the ER for withdrawal symptoms and No I am not condoning their behavior.
Jess October 22, 2012 at 12:09 AM
I agree with you, but I know some people who live there and have lived there who aren't "bad."
Mordecai November 10, 2012 at 03:42 PM
I used to live in the Point. Most everyone there are just normal, if poor, families. It's the small but unfortunately visible minority that makes things worse for everyone else.
Jack Carver December 23, 2012 at 06:59 PM
