Judge Sets Bail at $25K for Salem Stabbing Suspect

A Salem man was arraigned on charges of attempted murder and armed robbery Tuesday afternoon.

A Salem man accused of stabbing and robbing another man on Roslyn Street Monday afternoon was ordered held on $25,000 bail Tuesday in Salem District Court.

Alexander Shachook, 19, of 5 Heritage Drive, Salem, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), armed robbery, violating the city's knife ordinance and disturbing the peace.

At 12:13 p.m., police responding to a report of an armed assault on Roslyn Street arrested Shachook after a brief foot chase. The knife believed to have been used in the attack was located at the scene.

Two independent witnesses observed Shachook stab the alleged victim three times and steal his leather jacket, according to court documents.

The alleged victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Shachook is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 3 for a pretrial hearing.
