30 Acres Burned in Salem Brush Fire

Area firefighters snuffed out a brush fire that broke out behind the Walmart on Highland Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Area firefighters got a little help from state forestry department employees Thursday afternoon while battling a large brush fire that broke out behind the Walmart on Highland Avenue in Salem.

Thursday's high winds made the effort to extinguish the blaze more difficult, firefighters at the scene said.

Fire investigators are still looking into what sparked the blaze but estimated that about 30 acres of forest were burned.

Salem Patch will post additional information as it is released.
