Community Corner

Letter to the Editor from CJP President: A Merger of Opportunity

As many of your readers may already know, the Jewish Federation of the North Shore (JFNS) and Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) have officially merged to become one united Federation, enabling us to make a bigger difference throughout this and many other communities. This is the first major step toward a very exciting future for both organizations and the communities we serve.

CJP and JFNS share a strong commitment to Jewish learning, a deep connection to Israel and a desire to aid and support others, locally and globally. With this shared vision of developing an inclusive and caring community, there is no limit to what we can accomplish together.

We will expand existing programs and create new initiatives both on the North Shore and in Greater Boston, presenting valuable resources and opportunities for the whole community. Our vocation and disability services, which are available to Jews and non-Jews alike, will be expanded, along with our leadership programs for Jewish teens and offerings for new parents to welcome them to the Jewish community.

In addition to these tangible offerings, the merger will deepen connections between CJP leaders, both new and existing, and North Shore public officials and clergy.  This strengthened relationship will help address important issues and Jewish communal priorities, including human services, disability, immigration, and support for Israel.

Ultimately, this is a merger of joy and happiness, where we are all gaining something incredibly important: a united community that will do even greater things in the years to come.
