This fall the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) joins an international campaign celebrated for its ambitious yet simple goal: to get everyone drawing. All over the world people gather every October to doodle, sketch and share at Big Draw events held in 20 countries. On October 4 and 5, come to PEM to create your own sketchbook, experiment in a light painting photo booth and leave your mark on the world in sidewalk paint, under the guidance of PEM's experienced educators and visiting artists.
To encourage drawing at PEM throughout the month, sketchbooks, drawing supplies and activity prompts will be provided in select galleries. The goal is to nurture the creative spirit in each of us.
Begin the creative experience Friday night, October 4, by joining the kick-off to Halloween with the Mayor's Night Out trick-or-treating in downtown Salem. Then head to the museum to use our special outdoor paints, join local artists and special guests in games, creative projects and storytelling inspired by PEM's collection. Start the day on Saturday, October 5, by crafting your own sketchbook and then experiment with an array of art-making activities.
