14th Annual Steve O'Grady Open Most Successful Yet!

 

The 14th Annual Steve O’Grady Open golf tournament was held Monday, August 19 at Olde Salem Greens, and was the most successful year in our history raising over $10,000 to benefit continuing education scholarships for Salem Little League and Boys & Girls Club alumni.

It was a perfect day as serious golfers and once a year golfers remembered Steve O’Grady, Salem Little League VP and Boys & Girls Club Executive Director who was killed by a drunk driver in 1999 at the age of 30. Major tournament sponsors were HTN Smith Foundation, Salem Five Charitable Foundation, Danversport Yacht Club and Landry & Arcari.

At the luncheon post tournament, 16 scholarships totaling $12,800 were awarded to this year’s Stephen M. O’Grady Scholarship recipients: Jefferson Akers, Elvis Alverez, Grace Duran, Stephen Harris, Daniel Linger, Ryan Madden, Cody Mercier, Yibelis Pena, Timothy Richmond, Maria Rodriguez, Aidan Scrimgeour, Suzanne Shahin, Gregory Speliotis, Jr., Rachael Trammell, Shannon Tucker and Jared Louf-Woods.

In 14 years, the Stephen O’Grady Foundation has donated more than $169,700 to Salem youth and related causes, including 162 scholarships totaling $128,000 and $31,950 to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem.
